What Christina Grimmie’s Family Went through after ‘The Voice’ Contestant’s Terrible Murder
The Voice contestant Christina Grimmie was suddenly killed on June 10, 2016. She was murdered by a male fan who had become obsessed with her when she found stardom.
HOW CHRISTINA DIED
Christina Grimmie was killed by Kevin James Loibl while signing autographs at the Plaza Live Theater in Orlando, Florida. At the time, Loibl had developed an unhealthy fixation on the rising star.
He approached the table where she was sitting and shot her a number of times in the head and chest. Her older brother, Marcus Grimmie, managed to tackle him to the ground and Loibl shot himself to death.
HER FAMILY STRUGGLED WITH HER DEATH
The YouTube star and The Voice contestant was quickly rushed to a local hospital where she passed away a few hours later. Her family was left torn by her sudden death.
Before finally releasing a statement, the Grimmie family had chosen to not speak to the press. Marcus was the only one who posted a few pictures and comments on Facebook after the shooting.
THEY HONORED HER BY STARTING A FOUNDATION
The family released a memorial video celebrating the late singer’s life and career after her funeral. Christina’s manager, Brian Teefey, set up a GoFundMe page to assist the mourning family.
However, the family finally found a way to deal with the tragedy in a positive way. Christina’s parents, Tina and Bud Grimmie, and her brother founded the Christina Grimmie Foundation.
WHAT THE FOUNDATION'S GOALS ARE
The foundation’s goals were to help support families affected by gun violence by providing them with money and the second aim was to create a breast cancer patients community support group for those affected and their families.
CHRISTINA'S MOTHER DIED
The late singer’s mother had battled breast cancer for many years and she sadly lost her battle on September 2, 2018. The two Grimmie men left behind have since vowed to carry both Christina and Tina’s legacies.
MOTHER AND DAUGHTER'S LEGACY CONTINUED
The father and son also believe that the two have been reunited in death. Marcus, who’s also a musician, has found comfort in his gift and also spreads awareness about their foundation.
SINGER'S BROTHER COMMEMORATED HER BIRTHDAY
On March 12, 2019, Marcus took to Instagram on his sister’s birthday to share an emotional tribute. He wrote: “Happy 25th Christina. I miss you. It isn’t the same without you here. It never will be.”
Marcus also included a number of photos featuring him and his late sister.
CHRISTINA'S SONG RELEASED FOR MOTHER'S DAY
For Mother’s Day in 2018, the Grimmie family released Christina’s song called “Little Girl.” The song spoke of the supportive love between a mother and daughter.
Christina was inspired to write the song when she was 12 and experienced the journey her mother had to tackle while going for breast cancer treatment.
