Fantasia Barrino's Daughter Zion Is Now All Grown-up and Has an Uncanny Resemblance to Mom

Fantasia Barrino was only 17 when she committed to raising her daughter Zion as a single mother. Now, her darling daughter is a gorgeous 20-year-old.

Those who know Fantasia Barrino have likely heard of her daughter Zion. After all, the proud mother shares photos of her children on social media for her fans to see.

Zion is a product of Fantasia’s relationship with her high school sweetheart, Brandel Shouse. He and the "American Idol" winner split shortly after giving birth to their daughter.

AN UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIP

It wasn't a healthy relationship, with Barrino accusing Shouse of abuse. He eventually pled guilty to beating and choking her.

With Brandel out of her life, Fantasia relied on her parents’ help to raise Zion as a single mother. It helped that her mom Diane had a past that paralleled hers. She, too, gave birth to the singer at 17.

TURNING HER LIFE AROUND

Before Zion, Barrino was a high school dropout who once lived on the streets and associated herself with people who introduced her to vices such as drinking and smoking.

However, while she was a rebellious teenager, Zion’s arrival changed all that. Fantasia worked hard to make ends meet to provide for her daughter.

JOINING "AMERICAN IDOL"

To give her daughter a better future, she decided to compete in “American Idol.” A three-year-old Zion was there to cheer her on, and she ended up winning the competition.

"American Idol" was Barrino's big break as millions around the world heard her powerful voice. Now, she remains an influential singer with a loyal fanbase who watches her performances and supports her initiatives.

ZION'S TEENAGE YEARS

While Barrino and Zion lived more comfortable lives following her win, they still experienced a fair share of difficult times. When Zion turned 13, her father shook Barrino's world by challenging her in a custody lawsuit. The singer's response was, pay up or drop it.

Despite the lawsuit, the parents have learned to set their differences aside for the sake of their daughter. They appeared on good terms when they were photographed at Zion’s high school graduation.

Previously, Barrino was embroiled in a lawsuit against Antwaun Cook's wife Paula, who insisted that they were still married when he and the singer dated.

After the whole fiasco, she and Cook broke up in 2014, and the man ended up reconciling with his wife. Barrino went on to marry Taylor, and the two remain in a loving relationship to date.

BARRINO'S BLENDED FAMILY

Today, Zion is a proud sister to Barrino's son Dallas, whom she shares with Cook, and Keziah, with her husband, Kendall Taylor.

On May 23, 2021, the singer and her husband welcomed their daughter. They have yet to show their daughter's face on social media, hoping to protect her identity for now.

Like Barrino, Taylor also has a son from a previous relationship named Treyshaun. The couple is doing a great job raising their blended family, treating each child as their own. Zion has also taken care of her siblings with open arms, sometimes sharing snaps of them on social media.

ZION'S 20TH BIRTHDAY

Recently, the young woman celebrated her 20th birthday, and her mother made sure to shower her with love. On Instagram, the proud mom shared:

"Singing Happy Birthday to my first love, my first born and my life changer. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Baby Girl."
