Fantasia Barrino's daughter, Zion is now a high school graduate reminding us of how much she was a huge part of the singer's life and growth. She was only 17 when she had Zion and committed to raising her as a single mother.
If you’re one of those who follow Fantasia Barrino’s life, then you’ll know that she has a daughter, Zion Quari Barrino. But if you haven’t been visiting her Instagram lately, then you’ll be surprised to learn that Zion is now a high school graduate who looks so much like her mother.
For the benefit of those who are just catching up now, here’s a recap of what you may want to know about Fantasia’s eldest who was born when the singer was only 17.
WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT ZION'S FATHER
Zion is a product of Fantasia’s relationship with her high school sweetheart, Brandel Shouse who split with the “American Idol” winner shortly after she gave birth. Their relationship got to a point where Fantasia accused Brandel of abuse and he pled guilty to beating and choking her.
When Zion turned 13, the teen’s father shook Fantasia’s world by challenging her in a custody lawsuit. Fantasia’s response was, pay up or drop it.
ZION GREW UP WITH HER SINGLE MOTHER
With Brandel out of her life, Fantasia relied on her parents’ help to raise Zion as a single mother. It helped that her mother, Diane had a past that paralleled hers. She also had the singer when she was 17.
Fantasia worked hard to make ends meet just to provide for her daughter. It wasn’t long after when she competed in “American Idol.” A three-year-old Zion was there to cheer her on.
THE TIDES TURNED WITH "AMERICAN IDOL"
Those were tough times for Fantasia who was also battling her own demons. Before Zion, she was a high school dropout who was raped at 14. There was a time when she lived on the streets and associated herself with people who introduced her to drinking and smoking. It was around the time she turned her back from her Church.
But Zion’s arrival changed all that. Fantasia worked hard to make ends meet just to provide for her daughter. It wasn’t long after when she competed in “American Idol.” A three-year-old Zion was there to cheer her on. It was the turning point for the singer who won the competition.
ZION'S FATHER FILES FOR CUSTODY
Fantasia rose to fame after that and was able to provide for her daughter comfortably. However, when Zion turned 13, the teen’s father shook Fantasia’s world by challenging her in a custody lawsuit. Fantasia’s response was, pay up or drop it. She demanded Brandel to pay child support since he never did since Zion’s birth.
Today, Zion is not just her mother’s firstborn but she’s also an older sister to Dallas, the singer’s 7-year-old son with Antwaun Cook.
ZION GRADUATES WITH BOTH HER PARENTS
That must have resulted in a settlement that both agreed on since they appeared to be on good terms when they were photographed together at Zion’s high school graduation.
Yes, Zion is now a high school graduate and what a proud moment it was for Fantasia who shared their family photo to commemorate the milestone. That photo was also a reminder of how much Zion resembles her mother, only a smaller and younger version. And with longer hair.
ZION PORTRAYS A YOUNG FANTASIA
This uncanny resemblance was also the reason why back in 2017, Zion was featured in her mother’s music video where she portrayed a young Fantasia. Check out the clip below and see why she was the perfect person to be cast for that role.

ZION GAINS A BROTHER
There was a time when Fantasia refused to reveal the identity of her son’s father because he was married when they dated. But that blew up when Antwaun’s wife, Paula, filed a lawsuit against the singer after divorcing her husband.
Despite Fantasia defending her actions by saying Antwaun was already separated when they dated, Paula insisted she broke up her marriage. Regardless, Fantasia and Antwaun never made it too far and by 2014, he reconciled with his wife.
