If there’s anything John Legend learned after becoming a father, it’s that diaper duty is not an easy task. More so for dads who are left with that responsibility in public places.

As such, the singer recently took it upon himself to be part of a solution to the problem. He partnered with Pampers and Koala Kare to install 5,000 changing tables in men’s public restrooms all over the United States and Canada.

ON FATHERS AND DIAPER DUTY

Legend tells People it was a no-brainer decision to be involved in the project. As an active co-parent with his wife Chrissy Teigen to their two children, Luna, 3, and Miles, 13 months, the 40-year-old father is aware that the society doesn’t have much to offer when it comes to hands-on fathers.

“I’m glad that we’re highlighting this issue. Overall, it’s part of a movement that we recognize [the] duties of parenting and running the house should be shared more equally between partners.”

He cites his experience on airplanes as an example.

“A lot of times, they’re not built for it. You just find a spot and you want the kid to be comfortable because some of these spots are hard and uncomfortable, and they’re freaking out. You just wanna get it done in any way possible, by any means necessary.”

Luckily for the star, Pampers is pushing for more involvement among dads when it comes to diaper duty. In fact, he appeared in the diaper company’s Super Bowl ad in February promoting the cause.

Legend said this initiative should have been taken on a long time ago since many fathers are equally invested in taking care of their kids domestically as mothers.

“I’m glad that we’re highlighting this issue. Overall, it’s part of a movement that we recognize [the] duties of parenting and running the house should be shared more equally between partners.”

He adds,

“I think making the changing stations available is gonna make a difference for a lot of people.”

“We want to let her know that when you make this choice, this is what the consequence is going to be."

ON TEACHING HIS DAUGHTER TO NEGOTIATE

Legend also spoke of his growing daughter who’s keeping his and his wife’s hands full. According to the singer, Luna is learning to negotiate as evident in a recent clip Chrissy shared where the three-year-old scores a candy from her mother using her bargaining skills.

“It’s about setting boundaries,” he says. “And saying there are trade-offs in life.”

“We want to let her know that when you make this choice, this is what the consequence is going to be. I think we try to stay on the same team, so she doesn’t play us against each other,” he explains.

ON HIS FAST-GROWING SON

Meanwhile, Legend and Teigen are also busy with their son, Miles who looks so much like his father.

“He’s already talking a little bit,” the proud father shares and adds that he’s almost about to walk.

Overall, Legend is proud of the family he and his wife have made and the kind of parents they’re turning out to be. Fans are just as impressed with the way these two are managing their careers and perfecting parenthood. And with Legend’s latest project, we salute him for helping other fathers with their needs when it comes to helping out with their kids.
