Red Sox Legend David Ortiz Still in ICU but Condition Upgraded to 'Good'
Former Boston "Red Sox" player David Ortiz is still in the ICU following the shocking attack against him in the Dominican Republic, but his condition has gone from "serious" to "good."
David Ortiz' condition is now "good" after more than a week of being in critical condition for being shot while out partying in the Dominican Republic.
According to the official Boston Red Sox team social media accounts, David continues to recover in an ICU in Boston.
"This morning, David's condition was upgraded to 'good' by his doctors and he continues to make progress with his recovery in the Intensive Care Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. We remain grateful to everyone who has helped David through this ordeal, both in the Dominican Republic and here in Boston."
They added that their legend athlete has gotten a lot more strength and courage from the outpouring support he's been getting from fans across the globe.
"David's journey to good health has been bolstered by the many expressions of love that have come to us from across the globe. Your support has lifted his spirits tremendously during this challenging time."
Suspects in Custody
One of the suspects of the shooting were arrested on sight, and according to the Dominican National Police Director Ney Aldrin Bautista Almonte, they were able to arrest everyone else involved except for one person.
There were allegedly seven men involved in the shooting, and the gunman is in custody. The person at large is allegedly Luis Alfredo Rivas Clase, or "The Surgeon." Almonte also revealed that there was a $7830 price on Ortiz's head which motivated the suspects to carry the attack.
The first suspect to be arrested was Eddy Feliz Garcia, who was beaten up by an angry crowd as he tried to escape on a motorcycle. As to what his role was, he was the motorcycle rider that brought the shooter to the scene.
Possible Motives
The police authorities have declined to offer the motives for the shooting, but there are theories going around that it was carried out by a Dominican drug lord who thought he was having an affair with his wife.
“There is no doubt that it was an act of hired killers. If we had known that there was a dangerous situation, he [David Ortiz] would not have been there at that moment.”
The Shocking Incident
"Big Papi" was with a friend at a bar in Santo Domingo at around 8:50 PM on Sunday, June 9, when he was shot in the back. The bullet came out through his stomach, ultimately damaging his liver and small intestine. A new video that surfaced shows how close the gunman was to him when he was shot.
David's wife, Tiffany, shares that her husband is "stable, awake, and resting comfortably," which is all that matters at this point.
