B. Smith’s husband, Dan Gasby, is speaking out once again about being her caretaker amid backlash from the public over his relationship with another woman.

Before her Alzheimer’s diagnosis, B. Smith (birth name Barbara Elaine Smith) was a former model who owned several restaurants and wrote three cookbooks.

She was also known as the host of the nationally-syndicated TV show “B. Smith With Style,” and made history as the first Black woman to launch her brand of home goods at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

'My ladyfriend Alexandra is taking care. We’ve gone through the whole circle of brain foundations'

All that changed in 2013 when Smith found out she has Alzheimer’s. The once-vibrant lifestyle icon slowly faded out of the spotlight until last year when Gasby, 65, unveiled his new woman, Alex Lerner.

The admission sparked backlash not only because Gasby was dating while still married to Smith, but because Gasby insisted he had his wife’s approval. The fact that Lerner also stayed in Gasby and Smith’s matrimonial home didn’t help matters.

The media executive has given tons of interviews in a bid to justify their family dynamic and in a recent one with Page Six, he insists Smith, 69, is in good hands.

“Barbara’s being cared for and loved. She’s not in a box. Not struggling or dying. I have a seven-bedroom house, in partnership with an assisted-living facility, still handling our Bed Bath & Beyond products, working on a documentary about her and trying to do a radio show.”

“My daughter, Dana, who’s 32, is caring for her,” Gasby continued. “My ladyfriend Alexandra is taking care. We’ve gone through the whole circle of brain foundations.”

'I'm not supposed to be conscripted to somebody because of their race'

Gasby reiterated in the interview that Smith told him to live his life after finding out she had early-onset Alzheimer’s. It’s been six years since that time, and the former cover-girl’s symptoms have only worsened.

“Childlike, Barbara can no longer spell a word,” Gasby told the outlet.

He is not oblivious to the criticism from people who believe it’s inappropriate for him to be dating another woman while he’s married to and living with his wife of almost 27 years. Gasby implies those who are offended don't know what he's been going through.

“Everybody tells you how to live your life, but that’s while they’re living theirs and not surviving through our problems. I’m in my 60s. I lived tied up in a box five years. …Alex’s father suffered with this same illness. She saw her father who was all alone become a child. She understands what this is like. …Look, we all watch over Barbara. We take walks with her. We are all caring for her.”

Gasby again came under fire in February after claiming folks only had a problem with his relationship because Lerner is white.

“The 800-pound gorilla in this situation is she's white,” Gasby said at the time. “I'm not supposed to be conscripted to somebody because of their race.”
