Nicole Kidman Went through a Painful Divorce before Finding Love Again

Nicole Kidman felt broken and alone after an excruciating divorce with Tom Cruise until she fell in love with Keith Urban.

Kidman, who began her acting career in Australia, married actor Cruise in 1990. However, after ten years, Cruise horrified her with divorce papers, leaving her totally shattered.

"It took me a very long time to heal. It was a shock to my system," Kidman said. "That was a great relationship. I think it ran its course. I was really damaged and not sure whether [love and marriage] was ever going to happen again to me."

What made things much increasingly intolerable for her was enduring a miscarriage.

"I know the yearning. That yearning. It's a huge, aching yearning. And the loss! The loss of a miscarriage is not talked about enough," she said. "That's massive grief to certain women."

"I feel there was something else at work, bringing us together and then just continuing to watch over us."

However, her whole world changed when country music singer Urban became a part of her life. They met at G'Day LA, a Hollywood event honoring Australians, in 2005. Around four months later, Urban called Kidman, and they began dating.

In 2006, they tied the knot at the Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel in the grounds of St Patrick's Estate, Manly, in Sydney.

In a 2017 interview, Urban said: "Definitely we both met each other exactly at the right time. She said early on that she wanted to be brave with me. I feel there was something else at work, bringing us together and then just continuing to watch over us."

The beloved couple now shares two daughters. But the most delightful thing about them is that they still look smitten by one another even after 13 years of marriage.

The dedication that Urban showed Kidman was exactly what she expected to pull her out of the emotional spiral she was experiencing a very long time before.
