Meet Theresa Caputo of 'Long Island Medium' Fame's Beloved Parents Nick and Ronnie

Behind “Long Island Medium” Theresa Caputo is the grounding support of her parents, Nicholas and Veronica whom she followed into a lifestyle in service to others.

Theresa’s father, born Nicholas J. Brigandi, incorporated the values of honesty and helping others in need into his life from an early age. Nick grew up in Hicksville where he began his public service in September 1959 in the Hicksville Fire Department.

He joined the Nassau County Department of Public Works the following year and so started Nick’s long servitude to his community.

For over 30 years Nick served as the Hicksville fire Department’s Sergeant of Arms, while he also acted as Honorary Chief of the Department, Honorary Captain of Engine Company #7, Chaplain and former President of the Exempt Benevolent Association.

Theresa’s father also enjoyed fishing and racing, which he did for 20 years while he also served as the Hicks Racing Team’s captain for eight years. Nick and Veronica “Ronnie” got married in 1966 after which they had Theresa and her brother Michael.

The best-selling author’s father became the Water Commissioner in 1980 and later started serving as the District Treasurer.

Even though Nick retired from Nassau County in 1980, he continued his efforts in helping others and got named Citizen of the Year in 2010 and received the President’s Award in 2004.

Theresa had always been close to her parents and credited her mother with helping her heal and come into her own during her twenties.

“After suffering from debilitating anxiety and trying to manage it on my own and with a therapist for years, my mom introduced me to a spiritual healer and teacher named Pat Longo. After just one session, she told me that I was suppressing Spirit’s energy, which caused a lot of my anxiety,” Theresa wrote on her website.

When Theresa Caputo accepted her gift of communicating with Spirit, her parents supported her every step of the way, even when she split for her husband Larry Caputo in 2018.

Living next door to Theresa, Nick often helped out with household chores after Larry moved to California, and wanted to help sort out the problems between Theresa and Larry.

“I think as parents, when something is wrong or upsetting our children, we just want to fix it for them — but my dad can't fix what's going on between Larry and I. So my parents — as sad and as hard it is for them — they are there, just loving and supporting us," Theresa said.

The couple has two children, Victoria and Larry. While fans of “Long Island Medium” often saw them when the show started, their appearances became considerably less later on, and with good reason.

"When we started Long Island Medium, little Larry just graduated from college; Victoria just graduated high school. You know, they're growing up. Larry lives in the city now. Victoria now too," Theresa explained during a show in April 2018.

Since then, Victoria graduated from beauty school and started working as a balayage specialist at a salon in Syosset, New York, while Larry Jr. became a Manager of Studio Operations at Madison Square Garden Networks.

The medium’s marriage to Larry lasted almost three decades, and months after their split, Theresa Caputo revealed the reason why their marriage fell apart.
