Katherine Schwarzenegger Shares Emotional Tribute to Family after Cousin Saoirse Kennedy's Death
Katherine Schwarzenegger paid tribute to her family for supporting her after they all went through the tremendous loss of their young relative Saoirse Kennedy Hill.
Katherine, 29, is keenly aware of the importance of having a stable source of support when tragedy strikes, and she is extremely grateful for her family for being that support.
When her cousin Saoirse Kennedy Hill passed away last week from a drug overdose, it was an emotional blow to the entire Kennedy family. They held the funeral for the late 22-year-old on Monday.
In Katherine's post, she displayed her determination to get through the pain. "After wiping away the tears, after the beautiful sunsets, there is always a new day," she wrote.
She continued:
"It’s not the big events or pretty things that hold you up at the end of the day, it’s family. I feel so incredibly blessed to be part of such a loving, supportive and strong family that shows up in good times and in tough times."
She finished by showering love on "each and every one" of her family members and saying she was grateful they were part of her life. Katherine is the eldest daughter of Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Saoirse, the granddaughter of Robert F Kennedy and daughter to Courtney Kennedy Hill and Paul Micahel Hill, was at the home of her 91-year-old grandmother Ethel Kennedy in Hyannis last Thursday when she became unconscious.
Emergency personnel were called in and transported her to the Massachusetts Cape Cod hospital where she was later pronounced dead of a drug overdose.
Prior to her passing, Saoirse's family were reportedly attempting to find a treatment center for her to curb her depression. The Boston College student's death has left many in grief, but toxicology results will answer whether or not she took her own life.
Meanwhile, Katherine's mother Shriver honored her late cousin in a touching Instagram post earlier this week. "Life is fragile and heartbreaking. It turns upside down in a minute," she wrote.
She encouraged readers: "Love your children, hold them tight. Love your family, hold them close. Love your friends, keep them near. Be gentle with others, as so many are fragile and struggling.”
Saoirse's death is another tragedy added to the list of incidents that most refer to as the "Kennedy curse." It includes the assassinations of the late president John F Kennedy in 1963, as well as that of Robert F Kennedy five years later.
Robert and Ethel's two sons, David and Michael both died years laters of a drug overdose and a skiing accident respectively. In 1999, John F Kennedy Jr also died from a plane crash along with his wife and sister-in-law.
