Monday was the celebration of National Dog Day and one well-known person made sure to mark it. Former First Lady Michelle Obama took to social media to share adorable photos of her fur babies.

Michelle Obama honored her family’s dogs, Bo and Sunny, on National Dog Day by posting images of them on her Instagram and Twitter accounts. The three images showed the Portuguese water dogs enjoying a sunny (excuse the pun) day in a grassy area.

The former first lady captioned the photos:

“Whether they’re cuddling up with me on the couch or rolling around in the backyard, I love these two balls of fur. Happy #NationalDogDay to Bo and Sunny!”

In 2009, the Obama family welcomed their male dog Bo to their family. The canine had the pleasure of being in office soon after Barack Obama, Michelle’s husband was inaugurated for the first time.

According to the Presidential Pet Museum, Bo was a gift from Senator Ted Kennedy to Barack and Michelle’s daughters, Sasha and Malia Obama. Sunny, a female dog, only joined the presidential family in August 2013.

The Presidential Pet Museum further described Sunny as Bo’s “perfect little sister.” She was said to be a ball of energy and quite affectionate.

Her name came about because of “her cheerful personality.” The water dog breed, whose fur is hypoallergenic, was selected specifically to avoid triggering Malia’s allergies.

In 2017, when the Obamas left the White House, their two pets needed to adjust to their “regular” home in Washington, D.C. Last December, while the former first lady made her last stop for her book tour for “Becoming” she revealed the biggest surprise the pets received.

The pair were thrown by having a doorbell in their new residence. Speaking to an audience at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Michelle explained: “Bo and Sunny were like, ‘What’s that?’”

She revealed that it took the dogs two years to understand that the sound meant there were people coming. This past Easter, Barack shared a family photo on Instagram that included the two pets.

In 2016, he also shared a photo of himself giving Sunny belly rubs for National Pet Day.

The Obamas really love their furballs and they post images of them whenever they can.

On March 20, 2017, Michelle took to social media to celebrate the spring equinox by posting a photo of her taking a walk around her neighborhood with the two pets.
