Sara Gilbert and the Rest of 'The Conners' Cast Visit 'The Talk'
Sara Gilbert sat down with her castmates as she made her first return to "The Talk" since leaving after nearly a decade on the show. Fans were happy to see her back.
Sara Gilbert, 44, told "The Talk" co-hosts that she "couldn't get here early enough" to see her former colleagues and an audience she dearly missed since leaving in August.
Gilbert was joined by castmates John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Alicia Goranson, Michael Fishman, and Emma Kenney from "The Conners" for an interview of the new sitcom. Clips are found below.
The show, which is a spin-off of "Roseanne," began its second season in late September. Gilbert, who portrays Darlene Conner, plays a central role in the storyline.
The cast strongly favored one of Darlene's love interests
At the end of the first season, she was left to choose between an old flame and a new love interest. On "The Talk," Gilbert spoke about the two men she was had to pick between.
She said that since the character David has a 30-year history with Darlene, she thought most people would favor him. However, fans are actually split between him and Ben.
She explained that "Ben is strong and gives Darlene a run for her money." The cast then took a vote and most of them rose their hands for team Ben.
Gilbert was constantly texting "The Talk" co-hosts and producers
Gilbert was also asked to talk about leaving the show. Host Sharon Osbourne inquired about the actress' ability to create familial bonds wherever she goes.
Gilbert said that maybe she gets "really attached to people." She then admitted that in the first week of "The Talk's" new season, she was texting the hosts and producers like she was still there.
"I know everyone was like, ‘OK, you left,' " she joked, prompting laughter from the hosts and the audience. One thing in particular, Gilbert missed, she said, was "the people."
The viewers showed that they missed her right back
She added:
"I couldn't get here early enough today to see you all."
The sweet remark prompted a big "Aww" from the hosts and audience. Online, Gilbert's fans shared similar sentiments when they expressed how much they missed her.
One person specifically missed the back and forth between Gilbert and Osbourne. Soon enough, though, the audience was laughing again as the cast discussed nicknames they had while working on "The Conners."
Gilbert's life has seen some drastic changes
In addition to acting on the show, Gilbert now works as an executive producer for "The Conners." She's expanded her skillset since "Roseanne" went off-air in 1997.
Other changes to Gilbert's life include her marriage to Linda Perry, with whom she shares three kids: Livi, 14, Sawyer, 12, and Rhodes, four. Gilbert's family is part of the reason she left "The Talk."
According to USA Today, Gilbert said that while she enjoys being busy, she would prefer that her work and family not suffer. "The Talk" called for an 11-month commitment which she was no longer willing to give.
She is now balanced and both shows are excelling
Paired with her work on "The Conners," it was just too much. Since leaving the daytime show, she has more time with her kids, to be creative, and to care for her physical health.
Singer Marie Osmond replaced Gilbert as the new host on the talk show. Having been a guest on and co-hosted the show over the years, Osmond was the perfect fit.
Gilbert is confident in Osmond's abilities, saying, "Marie's been around for a bunch of years and knows what she's doing." So far, it looks like both "The Conners" and "The Talk" are managing just fine with the changes.
