Rita Morena and Steven Spielberg Take a Selfie Together on the Set of Their New Film
Rita Moreno's selfie with Steven Spielberg will melt hearts as well as have us wondering what scene the photo was taken from.
Rita Moreno, 87, and Steven Spielberg, 72, looked adorable together in a sweet picture Morena shared to her Instagram account on Tuesday.
In it, the acclaimed director wore a black suede winter coat as he stood smiling next to the actress. The post is found below.
Spielberg drew in Moreno with a new musical
Moreno's outfit was a bit more bizarre. She wore a loose white piece underneath a rugged light blue dress. Her hair was wrapped with the front let out for her curls to show.
She informed fans in the caption that the picture was taken "from the set last week," then added, "I just adore this man!" in a touching display of emotion.
The set she's referring to is that of "West Side Story," a musical Spielberg produced through Amblin Entertainment. Moreno plays the role of Valentina in the movie.
The original musical film was based on "Romeo and Juliet"
In the original 1961 film, Moreno played the witty character, Anita. The Puerto Rican actress' career has since continued steadily over the decades. Most recently, her tv appearance was on "Jane the Virgin."
"West Side Story" will follow as two New York gangs carry out their rivalry. Amidst the havoc created, Tony and Maria, played by Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler respectively, fall in love despite being from different gangs.
The story was inspired by William Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet," but with a new twist on and done in a more modern environment — the Upper West Side of New York City.
Details of the newest adaptation
In the new version of the film, Ariana DeBose will play Anita. The actress previously appeared in hits like "The Fault in Our Stars" and "Baby Driver." Writer Tony Kushner prepared the new storyline for the new adaptation.
Earlier, Spielberg also shared snapshots from filming. It included the same photo Moreno shared as well as a few others of the cast.
One picture was a letter Spielberg wrote discussing the experience he had making the movie. He further announced that December 18, 2020, was the date the movie would be released.
What else is going on with Moreno?
In addition to her work on "West Side Story," Moreno also has a new project with Pop TV. She will be rejoining the cast of "One Day at a Time." As a result, the busy entertainer just changed up her schedule.
She moved up a concert date in Santa Monica, California to November 9 at 7:30 pm. The event will feature songs from her album Una Vez Más.
Moreno can thanks fans for campaigning for the return of the tv series which was originally on Netflix before they canceled it in March this year.
Outraged fans used the hashtag #SaveODAAT to compel Pop TV to pick up the show for a fourth season. Moreno announced the news via Instagram and racked up over 50,000 likes.
Moreno will also be getting a documentary about her life done by Normal Lear and Michael Kantor. The film is set to air on PBS in 2020.
