Princess Diana's Navy Blue Gown Worn When She Danced with John Travolta Fails to Sell at Auction
The iconic midnight blue dress worn by Princess Diana while dancing with John Travolta back in the day shockingly failed to sell at an auction.
In a world where the memory of the beloved People's Princess is revered and worshiped, it came as a shock that an auctioned item of the late Princess Diana, by Kerry Taylor Auctions did not get sold.
The item is the Victor Edelstein midnight blue gown that the deceased wore during a dance with the actor, John Travolta.

Based on the history of the dress on Kerry Taylor's website, the dress features a lightly-boned bodice with off-shoulder straps, a diagonally swathed velvet skirt designed to hug the knee and flare into a broad flounce above layered tulle petticoats.
The outfit is one of the most iconic dresses the Princess ever wore, and it measures at the bust, 92 cm, 36 inches, and at the waist, 71 cm and 28 inches.
In '85, the late mom-of-two, alongside Prince Charles traveled to the United States for an official visit.

President Ronald Reagan and the First Lady at the time, Nancy, threw a state dinner for the Princess and Prince of Wales, and Diana wore the midnight blue dress.
The "Face-Off" star spoke about it recently, saying that he was awestruck while dancing with Diana. He admitted that he felt like "Prince Charming," and he had to remember his ballroom dance training so he could take the lead.
It was at the state dinner that the then-FLOTUS informed Travolta that the royal would love to dance with him, and he obliged. The Princess and the actor twirled and turned to the songs from "Grease" and "Saturday Night Fever," and it got tagged a "Fairy tale dance."

The People's Princess repeated the dress during a state visit to Germany in '86, and to the Royal Opera House in '91, amid other occasions.
Thus, with a lot of history attached to the dress, it should have been an easy sell when it got auctioned in February, at the reserve price of $265,000 with an estimated sale between $330,000 and $450,000.
The dress didn't sell at the auction, but it later got sold to a British institution for $290,000. The dress has also been in the news recently for the "Fairy tale dance" with Travolta.

Diana, on the other hand, was in the news in October after the release of Elton John's book, "Me." In it, the British singer wrote that Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere once fought over the Princess in '94. He wrote,
"Richard Gere and Diana seemed very taken with each other… and the blossoming friendship didn't go down well with Sylvester Stallone, at all."

The singer added that the two men ended up facing off against each other, and the "Creed" star stormed off to his house. Stallone denied that it ever happened, noting that Elton was trying to sell his book.
To date, Gere has not responded to the claims, but whatever the truth is, the fact remains that Diana was loved by a lot of people, and would be remembered fondly years to come.
