The show was originally released in 1964, but Alex has been hosting it since 1984. At the moment, the show is airing a special titled “Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time.”

A Twitter user remarked that what Alex Trebek did was “classic.”

ALEX TREBEK ON “JEOPARDY! GOAT”

For the special, the three highest-earning contestants of all time, Ken Jennings, Brad Rutter, and James Holzhauer, got together to compete with each other in a best-of-seven tournament.

The goal of the special is to learn who is the best “Jeopardy!” participant of all time. The winner will take home a $1 million prize.

“Jeopardy! GOAT” had, of course, Alex Trebek as its host. The first episode of the event was aired on January 7, and it made headlines already; Not only because seeing Ken, Brad, and James competing again was great, but also because of Alex’s cursing.

It happened when the host was reading one of the clues from the “Totally Rad 1980s” category and said:

“Hey babe! I made you a [expletive] mixtape to play on this Sony item that dominated the '80s and began in the U.S. as the ‘soundabout.’"

PEOPLE’S REACTION

Even though Ken quickly said the right answer, “Walkman,” netizens paid little-to-no attention to his guess. Instead, they took to social media to point out how amused they were about Alex’s cursing moment.

One of them wrote:

“I love how the audience is trying to contain their laughter like ‘nope nope we're all intellectuals here,’ but you can still hear them laughing ever so faintly.”

A second Twitter user remarked that what Alex Trebek did was “classic” and that she never imagined she would ever hear him, with his “impeccable” vocabulary, say that word.

ALEX TREBEK FIGHTING BACK THE TEARS

It is not the first time that Alex has shocked his audience and the entertainment world. In March 2019, he announced that he was battling pancreatic cancer.

Ever since Alex Trebek’s health issues hit the spotlight, he has been showered with plenty of love and support from his fans and followers. Even one of the contestants of the show, Dhruv Gaur, dedicated a heartwarming answer to the 79-year-old host. He wrote:

“What is We [love] you, Alex!”

As soon as the “Jeopardy!” host read it, he choked up. He later admitted that he got emotional, but he didn’t mind as he would be depressed and sad from time to time due to his illness.

Alex Trebek’s cancer has not only affected him, but also his wife, Jean Trebek, who has been worrying about him a lot. The host added that he was not the “most pleasant person to be around” when severe pain or depression hits him.

ALEX HAS RECEIVED MORE SUPPORT FROM HIS FANS

Due to the low survival rates of the disease, several people have contacted him to make him aware of the impact that he has had on their lives, a fact that has made the host feel “so good.”

Dhruv Gaur was not the only person who showed love and appreciation to Alex in the show. During their first appearance on “Jeopardy! GOAT,” Ken, Brad, and James wore purple ribbons in support of Alex Trebek’s illness.

Nowadays, the host is still active in the entertainment industry and is getting the support of his wife, who has been with him for almost three decades, and two children, Emily and Matthew Trebek.

In his efforts to arrange everything, Alex Trebek has already prepared a farewell message for his viewers.
