Dylan's journey to his upcoming big-screen role has been years in the making. Back in 2016, at just 15, he delivered a heartfelt speech in New York City about living with dyslexia. Catherine Zeta-Jones later reflected on that moment in a 2020 Facebook post, writing, "My son Dylan at age 15, talking about his dyslexia so eloquently. Hard work with good teachers. Forever indebted. #educationforall."

During his speech, Dylan recounted how teachers and classmates mocked him for struggling to read books far below his grade level. He admitted that at one point, some educators began to lose hope in his progress.

In 2008, his parents arranged for an evaluation in New York, where after three days of testing, they learned he had dyslexia. By 2009, Michael revealed that he and Catherine had decided to relocate from Bermuda back to New York so Dylan could get the help he needed.

"One of our kids has some special needs and it was recommended he go to a special school in the New York area," Michael said. That move marked the start of Dylan receiving the support and academic resources at The Windward School, which set him on a better path.

Michael Douglas and Catherine have both spoken publicly about Dylan's learning disability in past interviews. In 2010, Michael shared, "My son deals with dyslexia to a degree – it runs in the family and my brother has it. He goes to a special school. We're old-fashioned parents, they've got British nannies and we get nice compliments from people. Our children make us proud."'

Despite overcoming challenges and thriving with a learning disability, Dylan continues to speak out to raise awareness about it. During an appearance on the podcast The Back Room with Andy Ostroy, the host introduced him by noting that Dylan "struggled with the learning disability for much of his life."

Reflecting on his early experiences, Dylan shared, "I was completely illiterate at 11 years old, couldn't even spell my name."

Now, from struggling with dyslexia as a child, Dylan has gone on to build an impressive career in his twenties, carving out a place for himself in both politics and media. A 2022 graduate of Brown University, he has already worked on several political campaigns and grassroots initiatives.

While still in college during the 2020 election, he served as deputy campaign manager for a high-profile congressional race, then went on to co-found "Make Room," a progressive political action committee dedicated to supporting young, forward-thinking candidates.

In 2024, Dylan launched "Young American with Dylan Douglas" on SiriusXM, a show created to spark political engagement among Gen Z and other young audiences ahead of the November elections. Originally intended as a limited series, it has since been extended indefinitely. Outside the political arena, Dylan also channels his curiosity into history, pursuing it as an amateur historian.
