Cardi B Reveals She's Considering Becoming a Politician in Tweets
Cardi B fans have a lot to look forward to if the Bronx rapper is serious about her latest admission. Cardi expressed her desire to become a politician in a series of tweets, and the reactions – positive and negative – have been overwhelming.
Cardi was once a stripper and is today one of the foremost female rappers, so it’s not surprising that her consideration of politics and governance has people doing a double-take.
"I think I want to be a politician," the Grammy winner took to Twitter to announce a couple of days ago. "I really love government even tho I don’t agree with Government (sic)."
While Cardi’s admission has left tons of Twitter users laughing, it appears other fans believe the "Press" rapper can be successful
The response was instant; Cardi has over eight million followers on the platform, so that comes as no surprise. While some Twitter users chalked up her aspirations to a joke, others – including other people running for Congress – supported her.
In a follow-up tweet, Cardi revealed that she wasn’t joking around with her first tweet at all:
"I do feel like if I go back to school and focus up I can be part of Congress. I [expletive] have sooo much ideas that make sense. I just need a couple of years of school and I can shake the table."
"I'd like to see this. Cardi B would better represent the voters of her area better than most of the people in Congress. Many of us should run," one Twitter fan replied while another wrote: “Do it!!! Your passion and empathy is just what we need!!!”
Per TMZ, Cardi also promised her fans a video to further discuss her aspirations. The outlet noted that Cardi’s interest in politics is not exactly unprecedented since she’d previously used her platform to highlight social and political issues.
According to HotNewHipHop, Cardi is also a huge fan of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and the feeling is mutual. Last August, the rapper interviewed Sanders about his plans for the country if he did get a shot.
While Cardi’s admission has left tons of Twitter users laughing, it appears other fans believe the "Press" rapper can be successful as a politician. Chants of "Cardi B for 2020" have already filled her Twitter page.
Several photos published by TMZ also show fans holding up "Cardi B 2020" placards and other signs bearing supportive messages for the rapper’s interest in politics. Whether Cardi eventually acts on her aspirations now remains to be seen.
