Their relationship began after Campbell divorced his third wife in 1980, as reported by Rolling Stone. After splitting from Tucker, he went on to marry his fourth wife, Kimberly Woollen.

"ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED"
Following his death, Tucker released a statement and a song to pay tribute to her past lover. She said:

Following the country music icon’s demise, his widow became embroiled in a legal dispute against the late star’s three older children.
At the center of Kim Campbell’s feud with the singer’s children was his reported $50 million fortune.
The children also accused Kim of refusing to let them visit their father when he was in an Alzheimer’s care facility in Nashville, a claim that the singer’s widow vehemently denied.
