Tanya Tucker’s romantic affair with Glen Campbell despite their large age gap was a well-known piece of history in the country music scene.

Although their relationship was unsuccessful, it has inspired Tucker to write a song about the music icon, as reported by Inside Edition.

The song, titled “Forever Loving You,” includes the lyrics: "I'd hold you in my arms tonight just like we used to do, and I could leave this world a happy girl forever loving you."

Tucker, who shot to stardom at the age of 13, was in her early 20s when she started dating Campbell, who was older than her by 22 years. Their affair was fraught by tabloid gossip. But Tucker remembers their days together fondly. She shared after Campbell’s passing:

"Glen and I shared some incredible, precious memories together for a long time."

Campbell, a Grammy-winning singer, died after six years of battling Alzheimer’s disease. He died in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 81.

As a couple, Tucker and Campbell recorded a number of songs together, including “Dream Lover” and “Shoulder to Shoulder.” They also performed the national together at the 1980 Republican National Convention.

Their relationship began after Campbell divorced his third wife in 1980, as reported by Rolling Stone. After splitting from Tucker, he went on to marry his fourth wife, Kimberly Woollen.

Following the country music icon’s demise, his widow became embroiled in a legal dispute against the late star’s three older children.

Following his death, Tucker released a statement and a song to pay tribute to her past lover. She said:

“I’m just devastated. Absolutely devastated. It’s been so hard these past several years knowing what he’s been going through. My heart just breaks.”

She added that she’ll forever love the legendary singer. Tucker, who burst into fame with the song “Delta Dawn,” co-wrote the musical tribute “Forever Loving You” with Michael Lynn Rogers and Rusty Crowe.

Apart from honoring Campbell, a portion of the proceeds of the song was to benefit the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.

Following the country music icon’s demise, his widow became embroiled in a legal dispute against the late star’s three older children.

At the center of Kim Campbell’s feud with the singer’s children was his reported $50 million fortune.

The children also accused Kim of refusing to let them visit their father when he was in an Alzheimer’s care facility in Nashville, a claim that the singer’s widow vehemently denied.
