Mariah Carey to Be Inducted into the 2020 Songwriters Hall of Fame

Singer Mariah Carey is in high spirits as the "All I Want For Christmas" crooner was listed as an inductee into the songwriters Hall of Fame.

The singer was named as an inductee into the 2020 songwriters hall of fame on Thursday. Mariah Carey took to Instagram to announce the great feat; she wrote:

"I can't believe it... The SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME!!!!"

In the second slide, Mariah posted a collage of photos of other songwriters to be inducted into the hall of fame. She referred to the feat as one of the highest honors of her music career. Carey wrote:

"I'm so proud and humbled to be in the company of such legendary songwriters - both previously inducted as well as the incredible class of 2020."

Mariah Carey isn't taking her induction into the hall of fame lightly. She shared yet another picture celebrating her win with her family. The background of the snapshot was decorated with balloons that spelled out "Hall Of Fame."

The singer is deserving of this honor, as she's managed to be on top of her game since she began her musical career. Carey is the first artist in history to take the number 1 spot in four different decades.

Songwriters are eligible to be inducted two decades after their first significant commercial release.

The accolades she has received in the past are top notch as she is also the best selling female artist of all time. Carey lays claim to the songwriting record for the most weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, totaling up to 77 weeks.

Last December, the singer's classic Christmas tune made it top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song which was released 25 years ago has continued to make its round every Christmas season,.

The previous holiday made it her first number one spot since 2008. The songstress said in an interview with Billboard:

"I didn't expect it to hit No. 1 two weeks before Christmas."

"All I Want For Christmas" tops the Billboard's Holiday 100 chart regularly, peaking the seasonal chart for 38 of the 43 weekly editions since it launched in 2011. The classic also became the most streamed song within 24 hours on Spotify.

The pop icon, in her interview with Billboard, relayed her appreciation to fans who continue to listen to the classic every holiday. Mariah was also particularly grateful to a 2003 movie, which gave the song the needed boost.

The pop icon wrote 18 of her 19 number one songs. According to the "Songwriters Hall of Fame," songwriters are eligible to be inducted two decades after their first significant commercial release.

Carey made that mark when she released "Visions of Love" in 1990. The "Songwriters Hall of Fame" induction is billed to take place on June 11 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
