Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson Reveal What Their Typical Date Night Looks like at the 2020 SAG Awards

Actors Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson attended the Screen Actors Guild Awards on January 19, and they shared how their typical date night is like.

Hanks, who was nominated to a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of Fred Rogers in “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” went to the ceremony next to his long-time wife, Rita Wilson.

It involves “sweatpants” and “a good movie on DVD.”

The pair has accomplished what most people involved in the entertainment industry have not: maintain a loving relationship for decades.

Hanks and Wilson met each other in 1981 while they were working together on the TV comedy show “Bosom Buddies.” At that point, though, Hanks was married to his first wife, Samantha Lewes.

The ex-couple parted ways in 1987 and, only one year later, the actor and Wilson tied the knot. Together, they have two sons: Chester “Chet” Hanks and Truman Theodore. Years have passed, and their romance has gotten better and stronger!

During the 2020 SAG Awards ceremony, the pair took their time to share some details on what their typical date night looks like, proving that it’s all about the small details.

THEIR TYPICAL DATE NIGHTS

Even though Hanks looked very elegant and classy in his navy-blue suit and Wilson was a show-stopper in her red velvet gown, their date nights are usually less fashionable.

The “Forrest Gump” star confessed that they involved “sweatpants” and “a good movie on DVD.”

Wilson chimed in and admitted that things have changed “a little” over the years. She added:

“We’re happy to stay home on a date night because we go out so much. It’s just really, really nice to stay home and watch a great movie, stream something.”

Hanks finished the interview saying that he knew their night would be great when Wilson asked him to prepare a martini for her.

Although the couple has a great relationship spanning more than three decades, they have gone through some dark times, as well, including a battle with cancer.

In 2015, the “Good Wife” actress was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, she managed to beat the illness. During that time, she realized once again how kind her husband was.

Talking to the NY Times, Wilson said that a person could never know how their spouse would reach in such a situation. In Hanks' case, he cared for her all the time, a fact that made the couple even closer.

At the moment, they have a big, blended family of four children and very successful careers. Hanks, for instance, is expected to appear in a war film titled “Greyhound” later this year.

Wilson, on the other hand, has been working as an actress, producer, and singer! Her latest album is “Halfway to Home,” released in March 2019.
