Demetria McKinney was a proud mom when she celebrated her son’s birthday. Now officially a grown-up, the good looking young man, Cairo, received a shower of love from the actress.

Demetria had Cairo when she was only 17 and raised him as a single mom. He remains “her greatest gift,” she said, captioning two photos she shared on his natal day last month.

PAYING TRIBUTE TO HER GREATEST GIFT

Mother and son matched each other fashioning dreadlocks in one snap. Cairo kisses his mother on the cheek and their resemblance is uncanny. The “A House Divided” star also shared a solo of her young man looking handsome as he smiled straight to the camera. Demetria’s hand cups his chin.

Demetria prefers to keep her family away from the public eye so her birthday greeting for Cairo on her Instagram was rare. But what we do know is that Cairo is her only child.

“You're officially grown lol!,” the 41-year-old star wrote as part of her birthday message. “Cant stress enough how #proud of you I am and how much you've brought to my life.”

The singer added that Cairo is her greatest gift and that she cherishes all their learning moments together. Her message ended with the promise of her undying support.

“Looking forward to all you are to be and I am ALWAYS in your corner. Forever -Mom”

REHASHING HER ROUGH PAST

Demetria prefers to keep her family away from the public eye so her birthday greeting for Cairo on her Instagram was rare. But what we do know is that Cairo is her only child.

We also know that the actress had a rough past riddled with homelessness and domestic abuse. She told Consciousness Magazine,

“I am a product of molestation; I have been homeless; I am a single mom. I have been beaten up by my significant other. I had my share of life experiences, but I’m a living testimony that your past is your past.”

EMPOWERING WOMEN

Certainly, Demetria did more than just overcome the trials that hit her. She used it to empower other women by partnering with organizations that address the abuse of women.

Throughout her career, Demetria also tries to uplift women with the roles she plays. From a woman who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty in “A House Divided” to portraying superstar Whitney Houston in Bobbi Kristina Brown’s biopic to a rehabilitated drug addict turned mother-of-four in “House of Payne.”

REPRISING HER ROLE

Speaking of the Tyler Perry-produced show, Demetria is set to reprise her role as Janine Payne in the confirmed reboot. Deadline announced earlier this month that the green light has been given for the revival of the series which made waves for six seasons between 2006 to 2012.

The new installment will be promoted as the seventh season and will pick up five years later. All original cast members are reportedly returning including Demetria who shared the good news on her Instagram too.
