Ilhan Omar of Minnesota's 5th Congressional District Proudly Shares Heartwarming Tribute to Her Daughter on Her 17th Birthday

Ilhan Omar took to social media to celebrate her daughter as she turned seventeen recently.

Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar became a familiar name after she became one of the first Muslims elected to Congress back in 2018.

However, the representative of Minnesota's 5th Congressional District is in the news for celebrating her daughter, Isra Hirsi's 17th birthday with a sweet post.

The 38-year-old had taken to Instagram to share a picture of her and Isra sitting on some steps as she stated:

"You're 17yrs on this earth, have given me the pride of being your mother and watching you develop into a role model for so many young people."

Ilhan's pride must have stemmed from the fact that Isra spent her birthday speaking at a TEDx function, which the 17-year-old showed off on her Instagram page.

Isra's post consisted of pictures of her on the TEDx platform and some backstage images with friends.

The post, which she shared on her birthday, not only garnered over 10,000 likes but also started a conversation in her comment section. Both posts come some months after People shed some light on Ilhan's split from her husband of a year, Ahmed Hirsi.

The site recalled that the mother-of-three had cited "irretrievable breakdown of the marriage relationship" as the reason for her divorce filing.

Ilhan, who wanted to share custody with her ex-husband, stated through her lawyer that she would no longer comment on her marital problems.

The situation became even more saddening after NY Post revealed that Ahmed had remarried some 37 days after their divorce was finalized.

Ahmed and his new beau, Ladan Ahmed, got hitched in a low-key ceremony in Somalia in an attempt to avoid media publicity.

Whatever the history between Ahmed and Ilhan might be, their union did provide them with Isra whom Grist reported is dedicated to doing whatever is necessary to influence critical climate action.

The 17-year-old's efforts have already begun making an impact on the people around her.

In fact, Ilhan took to her Instagram to let her 1million followers know that being a mother to Isra and her two other children were the most significant title she has owned.
