Marlo Thomas and Phil Donahue Urge Fans to Stay Home for Their Loved Ones in a New Photo

The world is faced with yet another challenge to beat the deadly COVID-19 pandemic by staying home and hopes to curb the spread.

Marlo Thomas and Phil Donahue are among several Hollywood stars who encouraged the public to practice social distancing and self-isolation amid the virus outbreak.

At this point, it is only the public who can help flatten the curve by treating themselves as if they were carriers of coronavirus while scientists and medical professionals look for a cure.

COVID-19 has hit nearly the entire globe, affected thousands of individuals, and caused thousands of deaths. Businesses and schools have been drastically affected by the virus as well.

A SOCIAL MEDIA INITIATIVE

Thomas posted on Instagram a plea for the public to stay at home in a bid to stop the spread of the COVID-19.

The post included a photo beside Donahue, where the couple held up signages that said they stayed home for each other. The caption read:

“We are staying home for the ones we love and for the great doctors, nurses, staff and children. Help stop the spread of the coronavirus and together we can save the most vulnerable population.”

Thomas ended the post by thanking fellow actor Kevin Bacon for pioneering the initiative to stay home using the social media platform.

THE #ISTAYHOMEFOR CHALLENGE

The “Footloose” star began the “six degrees” campaign, which tapped celebrities to join the #IStayHomeFor challenge online.

The campaign is designed to encourage people to stay at home for someone they love to keep the community safe and healthy. Bacon first posted a video on Twitter with a caption that read:

“Join me and post a video or photo with a sign like this, with #IStayHomeFor, telling who you are staying home for, & tag 6 friends.”

Donahue is always present to support his wife, and the same goes for Thomas, but respect that they are knowledgeable in their own fields.

Several Hollywood A-listers have since joined the campaign, including the likes of Demi Lovato and Elton John, among many others.

Nurses and medical professionals likewise have utilized social media to ask for the public’s cooperation in staying home, as they risk their lives to save those who are infected.

Included in the posts are nurses and doctors who held up signs that read, “I stayed at work for you. You stay at home for us.”

Many have applauded and supported the frontline, who work in a hazardous environment. However, it is no secret that the growing number of patients will soon cause hospitals to run out of space.
