Many of the athletes who were supposed to participate at the Tokyo Olympics have come out to state their disappointment while also accepting that it is a necessary sacrifice, given the coronavirus outbreak.

United States gymnast Simon Biles is one of the athletes who was slated to compete in the now-suspended Olympic games. While making an appearance on the Today show from her home, Biles said she was heartbroken that she won't be competing at the games this summer.

Biles revealed that she was at the gym, training when she got a text message with the news of the postponement by the International Olympic Committee. She said,

"I didn't really know what to feel. I just kind of sat there. I cried, but ultimately it was the right decision. We need to make sure everyone in the U.S. and around the world is healthy and safe."

The IOC and the Japanese organizers have explained that the new date will give all parties enough time to deal with the pandemic. Meanwhile, Simon Biles reaffirmed that she would be physically ready for the games in2021, but admitted that the postponement would take its toll mentally.

Biles also discussed her training schedule and mentioned that she continues to communicate with her coaches virtually to develop a plan for the coming months. The 23-year-old Olympian concluded the interview by detailing her workout routine amid self-isolation. Biles said

"[I'm] doing more bodywork, so like arms, abs, legs. The other day I did a YouTube — it was like a twerk workout."

Simon Biles was born on March 14, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio. Her talent was discovered quite early and she later went on to dominate her peers at the junior elite level.

Over the years, Biles has distinguished herself as a top U.S. gymnast and continues to break all records in her path. With 25 world championship gold medals to her name, Simon Biles is undoubtedly the most decorated gymnast of all time.
