Katy Perry Is Sure of Her Parenting Skills as She Expects First Child with Her Fiancé Orlando Bloom

Over the weekend, “American Idol” judge Katy Perry took to her Instagram account with a short clip where she claimed she was “going to be a good mom.”

Perry, 35, is expecting her first child with fiancé Orlando Bloom, 43. In the footage she shared on social media, the singer was seen sitting next to fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

As the Grammy Award nominee watched a contestant walk away she noted: “I’m the toughest [expletive].” She then confidently added: I’m gonna be a good mom. My kids are always gonna get it straight.”

Perry announces pregnancy

Perry announced her pregnancy last month. She and the “Lord of the Rings” actor are expecting a daughter together.

No more hiding behind a big purse

Bloom is already a parent as he shares his son, Flynn, 9, with his ex-wife, Miranda Kerr. In March, the musician tweeted how relieved she was that she didn’t “have to suck it in anymore,” referring to her baby bump.

Debuting her baby bump

The California native initially debuted her baby bump last month in the music video for the song “Never Worn White.” She also shared that she was happy to not have to carry a “big purse” around to hide her growing stomach.

Perry also confessed that her baby was planned and not a mistake. She had actually wished for a baby girl before she confirmed that she was getting her wish fulfilled.

Couple excited about having a baby

According to a source this month, the couple “are both so excited about having a baby.” The insider added: “They love that they have this amazing, positive thing to focus on right now. It’s such a happy distraction for them.”

The musician revealed the news that she was having a girl by sharing a cute photo of Bloom. Taking to Instagram, the “Firework” singer announced their baby’s sex with a photo of her fiancé covered in pink-hued cream.

In the image, the actor was seen smiling joyously despite his messy face. His fiancée simply captioned the post writing: “It’s a girl.”

Contestant falls ill before performance

Last month, Perry comforted an “American Idol” contestant who had a medical emergency on stage. Makayla Brownlee appeared to be disoriented during the episode as she spoke to the judges.

She suddenly walked off stage before falling to the ground backstage. On-site medical personnel attended to Brownlee, and ambulances were called as she began to have a seizure.

Singer reveals medical diagnosis

It was later discovered that the up and coming singer had been diagnosed with vasovagal syncope in the seventh grade. Brownlee explained that it was a heart condition that caused her “to react to stress differently than other people, and it could cause a seizure."

After coming back a few hours later to perform, Perry was moved to tears as Brownlee made her way off the stage.
