CARING FOR HERSELF AFTER HER DIVORCE

According to Mai, caring for herself after her divorce helped her to get to a place where she knew she could fall in love with someone else again. While she would often say in the past that she would never get married again, she's glad she didn't give up on love.

"The thing I think that saved me is that I never gave up on love. I never gave up on love because it’s so omnipresent. It’s so healing that the only reason I recognize healthy love with Jay today is because I took that time to love myself."

While she didn't give up on love, the process of loving herself after being married for so long was not an easy feat for her. In fact, she was shaken by the divorce proceedings and was left jaded.

During their divorce proceedings, her ex-husband Freddie had a new partner, and they welcomed their first child together amid everything going on. While this broke Jeannie's heart, she was determined to move on and work on herself instead.

GIVING LOVE ANOTHER CHANCE

In 2018, she gave love another chance when she openly began dating rapper Jeezy. This April, the couple was supposed to go to Vietnam where Jay was planning to propose.

With the COVID-19 quarantine in place, Jeezy decided to bring Vietnam to Jeannie instead, filling his home with Vietnamese food and decor. It was then that he proposed to her.

Ultimately, Jeannie trusts in her partner and has faith in herself that what happened in her first marriage wouldn't happen again. She accepted his proposal, and the two are set to get married in the future.
