During an interview, Dwyane narrated that his life took a different path when he moved in with his father at the age of 9. Up until that move, the father-of-four and husband to actress Gabrielle Union was living with his mother.

"He kept us out of a lot of trouble because we respected his 'nos' and 'don'ts...But he also put us in sports."
Now that he has become a father, Dwyane has come to understand the power of showing full support for his children, especially when they are going through specific issues.
According to the Miami Herald, the 38-year-old addressed how dealing with his daughter, Zaya's identification as transgender, has led him to become a voice for the LGBTQ+ community.
The Miami Heat legend stated that watching his daughter growing into her present identity made him realize how much he needed to educate. Amid the cheers and praise he received from thousands of his fans across the globe, Dwyane said that:
"I understand that I'm speaking for a lot of people that don't have the same voice that I have. So for me, it's just my version of supporting."
