John Amos' Only Son KC Once Opened up about Growing up with Him
KC Amos, the only son of actor John Amos, spoke about what growing up with the actor was like for him. John's remarkable achievements in his career inspired young KC to pursue his dreams!
The world might remember John Amos as the legendary actor who starred in the 1979 television sitcom, "Good Times," but his son, KC, will forever remember him as the man who inspired him.
In a 2014 father's day post, Amos recalled watching his father on the TV series while growing up. While John took his role as a father seriously, he was also dedicated to mentoring his on-screen children from "Good Times."

On the NBC series, John acted as James Evans, a no-nonsense father who struggles with his wife to raise their three children.
Contrary to the character portrayed in this TV show, KC described his father as a thoughtful man. While going further in the description, he noted:
"I know him as the thoughtful father who is always looking at the practical way of doing things and even listening when you need someone to talk to."
KC, who now works as a movie director, believes that the journey to discovering his passion for directing and production work was aided by his father's advice to him.
He also added that watching John work in front of the camera brewed his interest in cameras and directing.
With John's dedication to his works, it comes as no surprise that KC is currently a Grammy-nominated director while his daughter, Shannon, doubles as a writer and a producer.
Before Amos began his acting career, he was honored as a veteran of the 50th Armored Division of the New Jersey National Guard and Honorary Master Chief of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Despite his famous role in "Good Times," John only started gaining critical acclaim after starring as Kenta Kunte in the television mini-series, "Roots," which received 39 Emmy Awards.
It was during the filming of this series that Amos claimed his ancestors spoke to him. He said:
"The ancestors said to me, 'You stay resolute, you stay strong, you will not break, because we did not break. You stay strong, Kenta Kunte. We are with you."

The outstanding performances in "Roots" went on to win the series nine Emmy Awards, one Golden Globe, and a Peabody Award.
It received remarkable ratings in the finale, which holds a record as the third highest-rated episode for any television series, and the second most-watched overall series finale in U.S. television history.

Although John is already an 80-year-old man, he goes on to appear in movies while also pursuing his interest in writing children's books. He is currently an author of a children's book titled "A World Without Color."
With John's dedication to his works, it comes as no surprise that KC is currently a Grammy-nominated director while his daughter, Shannon, doubles as a writer and a producer. John has indeed been an inspiring father, after all!
