The Emmy Award nominee recently took to her Instagram page to share a cute montage of pictures that featured herself and Aila, her great-granddaughter.
Among the photos posted were throwbacks of little Aila — one featured a baby Aila staring curiously at the camera in an armless pink gown. Marla wrote in the captions:
"Happy Birthday to my awesome GG (great-granddaughter) Aila @ailagibbs !! I AM amazed by all your wonderful talents and abilities..."
Fans of the "The Jeffersons" star took to the comments section with celebratory comments for Aila. They all agreed she was beautiful and wished her a long and fulfilled life, not unlike Marla's.
Marla bagged her first acting gig in the early 70s in the blaxploitation films, "Sweet Jesus," "Preacher Man," and "Black Belt Jones."
Marla is reportedly the last living member of the show's main cast.
Her breakthrough came in 1975 when she was cast as "Florence Johnston," the family maid, in the CBS comedy series "The Jeffersons."
The series was a spin-off of the 1970s sitcom "All in the Family," and it aired for ten years — throughout those years, Marla was nominated five times for the Primetime Emmy Award.
Marla is reportedly the last living member of the show's main cast, and she made an unexpected appearance in ABC's live re-creation of the series premiere of the classic sitcom in 2019.
Marla has only made the trip to the altar once. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Jordan Gibbs, between 1955 and 1973. The couple share three kids, Angela Gibbs, Dorian Gibbs, and Joseph Gibbs.
Her daughter, Angela Gibbs, followed in her footsteps — she has reportedly been acting for decades and is also well known for the work she does behind the scene as a director, producer, writer, and acting coach.
She is a proud winner of two NAACP Image Awards for her melodramatic productions which include, "Checkmates" and "The Meeting." Angela currently plays a recurring role on the comedy series, "Black Jesus."
