Gabrielle Union experienced several setbacks before she became a first-time mom. Since then, her bundle of joy with husband Dwyane Wade inspired her to "celebrate family creation" through a new children's book.

When Gabrielle tied the knot with Dwayne Wade in 2014, she became a stepmom to his children, Zaire, Zaya, and Xavier, from a previous relationship, but the couple had a difficult time welcoming a child of their own to the party of life.

HOW THE BOOK CAME ABOUT

In celebration of the miracle that came into their lives and "changed everything," the actress decided to publish the children's book called "Welcome To The Party."

During a recent interview, Gabrielle shared that the book aims "to celebrate family creation and expansion," even if it happens in a non-traditional sense - which was the case for her and Dwyane.

The actress revealed in 2018 that she had been diagnosed with a condition that affects a woman's uterus called adenomyosis.

The condition led to "eight or nine" heartbreaking miscarriages, while in vitro fertilization proved to be unsuccessful as well. Eventually, Gabrielle and Dwyane became parents to little Kaavia in November 2018 after making use of a surrogate.

A BOOK FOR ALL MOMS

But the book is not just about her journey, and Gabrielle told Essence that it's meant for all types of mothers, like her mom, who at the age of 60 adopted a child for the first time.

To bring the book to life, the 47-year-old actress shared with the publication that she made use of other black voices since she felt it to be "important" and "centering" to include them in the project, as she said:

“There’s no point in getting to the table if you’re the only one that looks like you sitting there. There are all Black women on this project.”

THE JOYS OF PARENTING

"Welcome To The Party" got published on May 5, and just the day before, Gabrielle shared the sweetest picture of Kaavia to social media. Reflecting on the joys of parenting, the actress wrote:

"@kaaviajames keeping us on our toes. I swear she's grown so much in the last 2 months and its wild to be able to actually witness it all."

THE CUTENESS OF KAAVIA

With regular updates about her on social media, baby Kaavia continually melts the hearts of her mother's followers, and a recent picture taken by Gabrielle Union during bathtime was no exception.

Showing off her goofy side in the snap, Kaavia sported a bubbly beard, and she didn't hesitate to show what she thought about it, even though mom assured in the caption that she didn't raise her voice.
