"Grey's Anatomy" star Patrick Dempsey recently shared a picture of himself with a protective face mask while encouraging his fans with an iconic line from the medical television series.

Actor Patrick Dempsey recently urged his fans to continue using protective masks as a preventive measure against the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Taking to Instagram, Dempsey shared a close-up photo of himself wearing a white and black checkered mask. In the caption, Dempsey employed an iconic line from his character Dr. Derek Shepherd in the popular medical television show, "Grey's Anatomy." He wrote:

"It's a Beautiful Day to Save Lives"

He also added the hashtags, "#WearAMask," "#COVID19," and "#YourActionsSaveLives." In response to the post, fans of "Grey's Anatomy" took to the comments section to applaud the actor. One user wrote, "? his famous saying from the show."

In his caption, Dempsey urged everyone to watch the video while adding that it was essential to listen and adhere to the guidelines put in place.

He continued by expressing hope that the novel coronavirus could be very well defeated if everyone decides to come on board. He wrote:

"We can do this people, but we have to be mindful and support each other. Wear a mask, please."

Dempsey's posts add him to the list of celebrities who have been taking out time to remind people about the importance of wearing a mask and staying safe amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Actress Reese Witherspoon took to Instagram over the weekend, where she shared a photo of herself wearing a protective mask and a large hat.

In her caption, she wrote, "Hey, Everybody! Wearing a mask is not a political statement. It means you care about other people's health and safety. Be KIND, wear a mask!"

Earlier in April, Dempsey and some of the most famous doctors on television shows came together in a heartwarming video where they expressed gratitude to health workers who had been working tirelessly since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While speaking in the clip, Dempsey said, "I want to thank all the doctors and the nurses. The real ones, not the ones that are on television."

A few weeks after the release of the video, Dempsey also partnered with his co-star, Eric Dane, as they demonstrated how to maintain a social distance of about 6 feet.
