In the aftermath of his COVID-19 diagnosis, Todd Chrisley of "Chrisley Knows Best" shared a provocative quote on Instagram aimed at people who don't want to wear the masks medical authorities recommend to prevent the spread of the virus.
Chrisley has had an up-close and personal encounter with the highly contagious virus, which resulted in his being hospitalized at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

THE MASK CONTROVERSY
The COVID-19 pandemic is sweeping the globe, and infecting millions. In order to slow, and hopefully prevent the transmission of the virus, medical authorities around the world have recommended social distancing and the use of surgical masks when in public.
While most have adhered to the measures, many have protested the use of masks, even going so far as to stage public demonstrations.
THE POST
The debate for and against the use of masks is still raging, and one young man responded to the nay-sayers with a particularly interesting post, which Chrisley shared. @idealpiper wrote on Twitter:
"I don't know why people are so against wearing a mask, most of y'all (sic) been wearing one all your life, you two-faced (expletive)"
Chrisley captioned the post with a heartfelt "You hear me?" which garnered over 80,000 likes and many responses both critical and approving. One comment baldly stated:
"Not me!! Ever!!! It’s a face diaper.. if I was fork tongued I wouldn’t shout it out to ya.. I would not follow the rules and pretend I do"
There were many more supportive comments, but the reaction illustrates the attitude underlying the resistance to using facemasks. Chrisley, who knows first hand how devastating the virus can be has been encouraging people to use facemasks and to keep to the social distancing measures.
TODD CHRISLEY'S COVID-19 DIAGNOSIS
In early April, Chrisley started exhibiting symptoms, and his wife Julie and daughter Savannah insisted he go to the doctor where he was administered the COVID-19 test. Once he tested positive, Chrisley returned home, where he remained in quarantine isolated from the rest of the family.
But the Chrisley patriarch steadily worsened until, and his wife took him to hospital. For those who aren't taking the COVID-19 pandemic seriously or the dangers of contagion, Chrisley detailed his grueling experience. He said:
“It has been the sickest that I have ever been in the 52 years I’ve been on this earth. I cannot ever tell you a time in my life where I have ever been as sick as what I had been with the coronavirus.”
Several weeks after his battle with COVID-19, Chrisley confessed that he was still far from recovered, and had a long and slow convalescence ahead of him. The Chrisley family have described the experience of seeing their patriarch fighting for his life as harrowing and life-changing.
A CALL FOR SOCIAL DISTANCING
Savannah had been alerting her friends and followers on social media to the seriousness of the current worldwide health crisis. She said:
“If you are doubting or have not been affected by corona personally … you need to know that this is serious. There are people who are dying (...)We have to practice social distancing, and we have to stay in if at all possible.”
And for those who have to leave their homes, Chrisley reminds them not to take risks, to use those facemasks. They may not be pretty, but they may just save your life.
