Disney Star Sebastian Athié Reportedly Dies at 24 – Inside the Young Actor's Mysterious Death
Actor Sebastián Athié unexpectedly passed at the young age of 24, and tributes flood in amid reports of an investigation into his death.
News of Athié's death came on Sunday when the Disney Channel Latin America shared it on social media. Alongside a smiling picture of the late actor, the translated message read:
"Rest in peace, Sebas. Your art and your smile stay forever. We regret the departure of Sebastián Athié and we will always remember him."
Starring as Lorenzo in "O11CE" gave Athié the most fame, as the series followed the life of the soccer player Gabo as he landed himself a Sports Academic Institute scholarship.
Additionally, Athié also made a name for himself in the Mexican series "La rosa de Guadalupe" before he diversified into music in 2018.
A video memorial in Athié's honor was created by Santiago Stieben, who worked with him on "O11CE." Although he felt "hesitant to make the video," Stieben needed to share his emotions and wrote:
“I am very sad. But I feel like I want to share with everyone the love I have for you. My hug to your family, my best memories with you always.”
Over the last month, Athié maintained social media silence and last posted about freedom in several posts early in June on Instagram. Athié's last message on the social media platform centered around a quote from Nelson Mandela alongside a picture of him posing in a park in Mexico City.
The quote stated that true freedom lies in living life in a way that also gives freedom to others, while he wrote in his post a few days before, that "running away from loneliness" only causes one to go further away from personal freedom.
According to reports from The Sun, Athié's death is being investigated, and there is currently no official information available regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
The world is also still in shock due to the death of another beloved actor, Nick Cordero. The 41-year-old actor landed in the hospital late in March after contracting the novel coronavirus, and he went through a series of health setbacks since then.
