When Al Roker’s only son, Nicholas “Nick” Albert Roker turned 18 on July 18, the journalist and his wife, Deborah Roberts, were available to celebrate him. According to Today, Al took to Instagram to drop a series of sweet images that showed Nick’s growth over the last few years.

While one image showed Al and Nick posing with Michelle Obama, another picture showed the father-son duo at the beach. Through the caption, the seasoned TV personality and author wished his son a happy birthday.

Al revealed his plans to be more patient when dealing with Nick.

As for Al's wife, Deborah, the 59-year-old uploaded two images from the day of Nick’s birth and penned an emotional and touching caption that read:

“He’s made everything in our lives sweeter ever since. Happy birthday my sweet, kind and gentle soul Nick! We celebrate you today and always.”

Today divulged back in 2019 that even though Al and Deborah have had their challenges with Nick’s upbringing, the pair couldn’t be any happier about his presence in their lives.

The 18-year-old, who Al described as “somewhere on the (autism) spectrum and maybe obsessive-compulsive” has even prompted some changes within the family.

Earlier this year, People reported that Al revealed his plans to be more patient when dealing with Nick, “especially towards the end of the week after I get a little tired.” His plans have made it clear that raising a special-needs child has built Al’s character and has even brought Al and Deborah closer together.

The pair, who have been married for over two decades, have known each other since the ‘90s. Good Housekeeping revealed that Al and Deborah first met when the latter joined the NBC family as a reporter.

Even though they became friends, it wasn’t until after Al divorced his first wife, Alice that he began making moves on Deborah. The couple eventually walked down the aisle in 1995 and have since welcomed two children together, including Nick.
