Iman Celebrates Nelson Mandela's Birthday with a Throwback Pic of Them with Her Late Husband David Bowie

Supermodel Iman recently paid tribute to Nelson Mandela, a social activist like her, with an Instagram photo with him and her late husband, David Bowie.

Nelson Mandela would have celebrated his 102nd birthday a few days ago, which several people did for the late Nobel Prize winner, including former supermodel Iman.

Iman honored Mandela on Instagram, with a black and white photo shaking his hand, alongside her late husband, David Bowie. "Happy Birthday, Mr Mandela," she wrote.

REMEMBERING NELSON MANDELA

Mandela was the philanthropist, social right activist, Nobel Prize winner, and first black South African president.

His involvement in politics came after his anti-apartheid efforts, which led a peaceful campaign against the racism of the government.

For 27 years, Mandela lived behind bars for his anti-apartheid efforts. Although he only lived until the age of 95, his legacy will be remembered forever.

IMAN'S PHILANTHROPIC WORK

Like Mandela, Iman is also a philanthropist, humanitarian, and activist for black women's rights. Although she retired from the modeling industry at a young age, her efforts are still felt.

In 2013, she and her model friends, Naomi Campbell and Bethann Hardison, launched a movement that emphasized the declining number of women of color on the runway.

Their wedding anniversary recently took place, which Iman celebrated with a throwback slideshow of the day she married her late husband.

The three girls sent a formal letter to the fashion authorities in Milan, Paris, London, and New York and named designers and fashion houses that displayed racism. Through her time as an activist, Iman was married to David Bowie, a white musician.

The couple tied the knot in 1992 and spent a happy life together, despite being from different races; Iman growing up in South Africa.

Their wedding anniversary recently took place, which Iman celebrated with a throwback slideshow of the day she married her late husband.

The short clip was made special with Bowie's song, "Wild in the Wind," playing in the background. The former model also added the hashtags "BowieForever and "Eternal Love" in the caption.

Bowie is Iman's third husband, and together they had one child, Alexandria, who goes by the name Lexi today.
