Model and celebrity restauranteur Chrissy Teigen is expecting her third child with R&B singer John Legend after struggling with fertility issues and undergoing IVF.

The couple, who has been married since 2013, have two children together, daughter Luna, 4, and son Miles, 2.

Teigen fell pregnant without the IVF treatments, and without planning it

GROWING THE LEGEND FAMILY

Teigen, who is a successful model with several Sports Illustrated, Vogue and Elle covers to her credit, was eager to start a family, but the desired baby failed to materialize. Teigen admitted:

"The big question was why this wasn’t working for us when I was young and he was healthy. I thought: people get pregnant by accident all the time! How does this happen?"

The couple talked it through and finally decided to try IVF, a process that several people they knew had already gone through.

STARTING THE PROCESS

Like so many women who have gone through IVF, Teigen had to take hormones to stimulate her ovaries so that doctors could harvest her ovum. This involved injecting the medication in her stomach, leaving her covered in bruises.

The hormone shots also affected her weight, and the formally svelte fashion model found herself becoming plump. Additionally, the treatments made her reactive and weepy, and the overwhelming scrutiny of the press didn't help.

FIRST SUCCESS

Their first IVF procedure was a success, and the Legends had their first baby implanted, a little girl named Luna. But achieving the pregnancy was only the first step.

Their lives became an endless round of doctors' appointments and ultrasounds. The first three months of their first pregnancy was a nightmare of constant anxiety.

Finally, Teigen and Legend welcomed Luna on April 14, 2016, and the new mom found herself dealing with a new problem: postpartum depression.

This is a problem that affects 1 in every 9 new mothers and can have devastating consequences in their relationships with their spouses and their babies.

Teigen's mother encouraged her to cook as therapy, and inadvertently started Teigen on a new career, as a cookbook author. Then in 2017, the Legends announced they were expecting their second child, a son, Miles.

SECOND SUCCESS

Their bouncing baby boy was born on May 17, 2018, and the Legends, who were already one of the most-watched couples in the entertainment business, became the most popular family.

Unfortunately, the attention also brought Internet trolls who attacked Teigen for putting a medically-recommended helmet on her son.

It looked as if the Legends had settled nicely, with Luna as Teigen's twin, and Miles a virtual copy of his dad, but on August 14, 2020, the model made an announcement that had fans flabbergasted. She is pregnant again.

THIRD TIME LUCKY

And this time, the pregnancy was as big a surprise to mom and dad as it was for the fans. Teigen fell pregnant without the IVF treatments, and without planning it. The model confessed that she never imagined she could get pregnant without IVF.

Teigen, who had always dreamed of a big family, confessed that falling pregnant during the COVID-19 pandemic has her feeling understandably nervous and anxious. Discovering her pregnancy was a shock and a surprise, but also an unexpected joy.

A few weeks ago, Teigen had undergone plastic surgery in order to remove breast implants she'd had put in early in her modeling career.

After having her two children and breastfeeding, Teigen wanted to reduce -- a move being followed by more and more celebrities.

With two toddlers in the house, welcoming a third baby won't be easy, but Teigen has a devoted partner and hands-on dad in Legend. Fans are eager to know if the latest addition to the family is a boy or a girl, but if the Legends know, they are not telling.

Teigen is keeping mum about her due date, but fans are calculating by the size of her baby bump that Legend Jr. will be making an entrance sometime in the Spring of 2021.
