Taraji P Henson Gives a Rare Look in Her Life with Throwback Photos Featuring Her Parents & Son

Taraji P. Henson shared several throwback photos of her family and herself in the past days, including one with her son when they first moved to Los Angeles.

Taraji P. Henson took throwback Thursday to a whole new level last week as she posted several photos from the past.

The American actress shared snaps of herself as a toddler and teenager until having a child of her own over two decades ago.

TARAJI'S YOUNGER YEARS

Henson's posts told a lot about her close relationship with her parents, whom she looked up to growing up. In one photo, the three of them dressed in coats and held a puppy.

The "Empire" star also shared an adorable photo of her toddler years, posing in a photo studio. She took her fashionable style to high school, seen in one of her photos where she wore denim overalls and big hoop earrings.

Included in her series of posts is a picture dating back to 1996 with her then-two-year-old son. The actress recalled the day the photo was taken in their first LA apartment where her son had chickenpox.

TARAJI'S FATHER DURING THE WAR

Henson's father, Boris Henson, was a hero who fought in the Vietnam War. Sadly, he returned with his past traumatizing him but received no support after.

The actress' decision comes as she prioritizes the safety of her and her fiance's families who would have to travel for their special day.

Boris came back from battle to become a police officer and battled his innermost darkness alone. He never hid his demons from his daughter but sadly died from cancer in 2006.

LAUNCHING A MENTAL HEALTH FOUNDATION

Seeing her father's mental health after serving in the military and getting no medical attention inspired Henson to start her own foundation, the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation in 2018.

Her philanthropic work aims to raise awareness and provide resources for mental health to the African-America community. She said:

"The numbers were alarming about the African-American youth suicide rate. Our children are killing themselves because they can't cope. We need to break the silence and break the cycle."

TARAJI POSTPONES HER WEDDING

Henson recently postponed her wedding to former NFL star Kelvin Hayden because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The actress' decision comes as she prioritizes the safety of her and her fiance's families who would have to travel for their special day.

The wedding day was initially planned to happen in April but was postponed to June because of bad weather. However, the virus is a bigger problem to face.

Despite things not going their way, the couple knows that there is a perfect time for everything, and eventually, that time will come.
