Here's How NFL Star Patrick Mahomes Feels about Becoming a Father for the First Time

Patrick Mahomes is about to be a new father. Earlier this week, he talked about the baby news and expressed some heartwarming words about his upcoming fatherhood.

On Wednesday, Patrick Mahomes sat down with radio station 610 Sports during their segment of "The Drive." He talked about the big news that he and fiancée Brittany Matthews had shared just the day before.

The two, who recently got engaged, are expecting their first child together. The longtime sweethearts have been together since they were both teenagers and have since come a long way.

THE SOON-TO-BE FATHER

During the visit to the local Kansas station, the host asked Mahomes about the lessons he's learned so far this year — when he became the current highest-paid NFL player.

The modest 25-year-old responded: "I think it's just about growing up, about having the responsibility and evolving as a family." The NFL star noted that he and Matthew do just that.

THE GENDER

Mahomes is excited to see what's in store for his future and is looking forward to continued growth both for himself and others. When asked whether he is hoping to have a girl or a boy, he responded:

"No, I'm just super excited to hopefully have a healthy baby and someone I'll be able to love for the rest of my life."

THE PREGNANCY

Mahomes and Matthews announced the news they were expecting by each sharing a post from the same photoshoot. The outside affair featured the mom-to-be holding up a picture of their sonogram.

"Mom & Dad, taking a small detour to the wedding," wrote Matthews below the shot. In the photo, she wore a white off-shoulder dress while Mahomes wore a pink t-shirt. He rested his hands on her tummy.

For his part, Mahomes shared a closeup of the photo, giving fans a clearer view of the sonogram as well as Matthews' new engagement ring. The personal trainer started wearing the diamond rock just this month.

THE PROPOSAL

On September 1, Mahomes proposed to his longtime partner the same day his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, were awarded their Super Bowl rings. Mahomes also received a $500 million contract extension.

However, Matthews seemed like the biggest winner in her post sharing the engagement photos. The event took place in a room at the Arrowhead Stadium, which was filled with romantic decor.

THE RING

The most significant piece to showcase, though, was the engagement ring. Mahomes shared a closeup of the square diamond on his Instagram stories soon after the engagement took place.

The heartwarming occasion came a day after Mahomes' birthday, so to say this month has been eventful for the football player would be an understatement.
