On the other hand, some people loved Mahomes' new look. "He looks so much better!" declared an admirer, while another praised, "Looks more grown up, adulting!" Even someone who isn't particularly fond of the football star commended, "Not a Mahomes fan, but the new haircut looks great!! 'Bout time he changes it!"

The snapshot wasn't from a casual outing or a planned media appearance. It was captured during an emotional moment at his grandfather Randy Martin's funeral service.

While Mahomes' fresh haircut may have surprised fans, the quarterback had been contemplating a change for quite some time. His decision to ditch his signature mohawk-inspired curls was not a spur-of-the-moment reaction following the Chiefs' Super Bowl loss but something he had been toying with for over a year.

During an episode of the Netflix documentary series "Quarterback," which chronicled Mahomes' 2022 NFL season alongside Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota, he candidly expressed his plans to shake things up.

While working out with his personal trainer, Bobby Stroupe, Mahomes got visibly frustrated when his headband's Velcro got caught in his hair. At that moment, he declared, "This is my last year with the hair."

Stroupe, seemingly taken aback, questioned whether Mahomes was serious about cutting his hair, but the Chiefs star doubled down. "Hair's gone next year. Going with different hair next year," he insisted.

Though unsure of the exact style he would transition to, Mahomes made it clear that the mohawk-inspired look was on its way out.

He even admitted that he had considered making the change earlier but decided against it to avoid clashing with Head & Shoulders — the shampoo brand he endorses.

Beyond aesthetics or brand obligations, Mahomes also joked that fatherhood played a role in his decision. With two young children, he quipped, "I can't have two kids and a mohawk." When Stroupe pushed back, questioning why not, Mahomes playfully replied, "Imagine me 40 years old with this haircut. I mean, come on."

While the internet may have mixed feelings about his new look, for Mahomes, this was simply the next step in an evolution he saw coming all along.

Although he had been toying with the idea of changing his hair for a while, it doesn't change the fact that the hairstyle switch-up follows the Chiefs' 2025 Super Bowl loss. After the Eagles emerged victorious, online viewers weighed in on why the team won.

The Eagles soared to victory in Super Bowl LIX, overpowering the Chiefs with a decisive 40-22 win. The Eagles' defense has been praised for being particularly dominant, leading to their win. Meanwhile, some NFL fans didn't hold back in sharing their thoughts on the Chiefs' Super Bowl loss.

One AmoMama reader credited the Eagles, saying, "They out played [sic] KC and deserve the win." Another was unimpressed with the Chiefs' performance, ranting, "The chiefs never show up, probably one of the worst Super Bowl in years [sic]." Someone else said, "KC played poorly."

Criticism about officiating also surfaced, with one person claiming, "KC without the refs are [sic] completely talentless lol." A user who didn't expect much performance-wise from the Chiefs wrote, "This is what the Chiefs really were throughout the season. 😭."

Another spectator felt the Chiefs shouldn't have made it to the big game, writing, "This game just proved that the Chief's shouldn't have even been in the Superbowl. They got a mickey mouse run off of last second soft calls and real NFL fans saw this coming a mile away. Their record should have been 8-9. Hope the NFL learns their lesson, ball doesn't lie [sic]."

The Chiefs secured their spot in Super Bowl LIX after a hard-fought 32-29 victory over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship on January 27. Patrick Mahomes' 245 yards passing and a touchdown, along with two more scores rushing, made the difference.

The Chiefs' defense also stepped up with key stops to preserve the win. However, at the Super Bowl, the Eagles outplayed them, ending their bid for a historic third consecutive championship.
