Lenny Kravitz Alleges Bill Cosby Fired Lisa Bonet from 'A Different World' — Here's Why
In his newly released memoir, "Let Love Rule," Lisa Bonet's ex-husband Lenny Kravitz claimed that she was fired by Billy Cosby from "A Different World" because she was pregnant.
In 1988, Lisa Bonet was fired from the "The Cosby Show" spinoff, "A Different World." Previous reports cited creative differences as the reason for her firing, but apparently, the reason had been something else.
On October 6, 2020, Bonet's ex released a book called "Let Love Rule" where he revealed that the "The Cosby Show" creator and comedian Bill Cosby did not take the news of her pregnancy very well.

COSBY DIDN'T APPROVE OF LISA'S PREGNANCY
When Bonet shared that she and her then-husband Kravitz were expecting a baby, Cosby allegedly got so furious that he decided to give her the boot from "A Different World" despite the massive popularity of her character.
In the memoir, Kravitz shared that Debbie Allen and Bonet called Cosby for a meeting to reveal the news of Bonet's pregnancy. According to him, Cosby knew what he was about to hear and asked Bonet before she could say anything.

A CHANGE OF STORYLINE WAS PROPOSED
Allen wanted them to introduce Bonet's character Denise's pregnancy in the show because it was relatable. Denise, the daughter of Cosby's character, Dr. Cliff Huxtable, would decide to raise a child as a single mom and she thought it was a good storyline.
After Bonet's exit, the focus shifted from her character Denise to Whitley, a role played by Jasmine Guy and her roommate Maggie...
FIRED AND CALLED BACK AGAIN
Cosby did say he would give the plot a thought, only to call back a few days later and reject the idea completely. According to him, Bonet was pregnant but her character was not and did not have to be.
Eventually, Cosby decided to fire Bonet from the show. Later on, after she welcomed her first child, Zoë, he decided to call her again to the show because her character was popular and fans loved her.
THEIR RELATIONSHIP NEVER RECOVERED
Although Bonet was back in the show, Kravitz shared that her relationship with Cosby was never the same again. Things were tense between them and ultimately, she decided to say her final goodbyes.
In 1991, Bonet exited the show citing creative differences. She was not present during the show's finale. Cosby's reps are yet to comment on Kravitz's allegations as of the date of this writing.
COSBY'S LIFE TODAY
"A Different World" aired from 1987 to 1993 with a total of six seasons. After Bonet's exit, the focus shifted from her character Denise to Whitley, a role played by Jasmine Guy and her roommate Maggie, which was played by Marisa Tomei.
Cosby is currently serving his time in a state prison near Philadelphia. Dozens of women have alleged that he sexually harassed them over the years. Although Bonet never publicly commented on his case, her daughter once revealed that she was disgusted by the news.
