DWTS Goes Back in Time for Week 5 as the Show Prepares for 80s Theme Night

Over the weekend, ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” promoted this week’s upcoming episode with a fun clip on its social media accounts. Here’s what fans can expect on the show’s 80s theme night.

On Monday, October 12, 2020, the professional dancers and celebrities on “Dancing with the Stars (DWTS)” will be taking part in the show’s 80s theme night. The episode will be airing on the ABC show’s fifth week.

The professional dancers and their celebrity partners will perform dance routines to songs from the era. The series shared some footage which was meant to draw fans in with the caption:

“Time for a throwback...Monday?! Get ready for a totally tubular 80s Night on #DWTS.”

TYRA’S ENTRANCE

According to “Parade,” DWTS will start off with the new host, Tyra Banks, walking onto the stage while Whitney Houston‘s “How Will I Know” plays in the background. Britt Stewart who is partnered with professional dancer, Johnny Weir, had this to say:

“I’m really excited for next week because we are the first couple to be dancing contemporary.”

BRITT & JOHNNY’S PERFORMANCE

Stewart shared how she and Weir would be doing a contemporary dance to “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” The pair will be dressed as Grace Jones and the late David Bowie for their routine.

Professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy and his partner Monica Aldama will also be dancing the tango to “Tainted Love” by Soft Cell.

Weir also revealed that they might be dancing barefoot and that he was nervous about it. The dancer was afraid of showing off his feet that have gone through years of figure skating damage.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM AJ MCLEAN

AJ McLean and his professional dance partner Cheryl Burke will be recreating the singer’s prom night. McLean never went to his prom as a child and he and Burke will be featuring as the prom king and queen.

Burke and McLean will have fans enthralled while mesmerizing them by dancing the slow waltz. The duo will be giving their capturing performance to Journey’s “Open Arms.”

KAITLYN & ARTEM’S PERFORMANCE

Kaitlyn Bristowe and her professional partner, Artem Chigvintsev, will be bringing the house down with a tango performance to Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now.” Chigvintsev explained how he and his dance partner would be doing another ballroom dance which will be much faster-paced.

He shared that they decided on a faster pace for their tango because of a comment the judges made. The DWTS judges mentioned that they’d been seeing the slow contemporary ones already.

WHAT THE OTHERS WILL PERFORM

Professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy and his partner Monica Aldama will also be dancing the tango to “Tainted Love” by Soft Cell. Vernon Davis and his partner Peta Murgatroyd will also dance the tango to “Livin’ On a Prayer” by Bon Jovi.

Skai Jackson and her professional partner Alan Bersten will dance jazz to “The Power of Love” by Huey Lewis & The News. Professional dancer Sasha Farber and Justina Machado will also tackle jazz to Michael Sembello’s “Maniac.”

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE STARS

Jeannie Mai and her partner Brandon Armstrong will be dancing jazz to “Like a Virgin” by Madonna. While actor Jesse Metcalfe and his partner Sharna Burgess will tackle the tango to “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears.

Dancer Daniella Karagach and singer Nelly will take on the Samba to “Rhythm of the Night” by DeBarge. Television personality Nev Schulman and his dance partner Jenna Johnson will be dancing the quickstep to “Take on Me” by a-ha.

TAKING ON THE CHA-CHA

Chrishell Stause and professional dancer Gleb Savchenko will take on the cha-cha to “You Got it (The Right Stuff)” by New Kids on the Block. In a promotional photo, Schulman and Johnson were seen showing off their 80s look on an Instagram post by DWTS, ahead of the episode.

Besides the colorful clothing, the pair sported in the promo, the duo also held a telephone from the 80s era and hilarious wigs. Murgatroyd also uploaded an image and videos of what she and Superbowl champion Davis will be wearing for their performance.

PETA & VERNON’S LOOK

In the photo, Murgatroyd appeared in a golden leotard and a purple belt and the funky 80s hair. In the footage, the professional dancer recorded herself while moving around in the flimsy outfit.

Her partner also sported an 80s hairstyle while wearing super short green shorts, a yellow vest, and white sneakers. “Dancing with the Stars” airs on Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
