American pro tennis player Taylor Townsend posted a heartwarming video on her Instagram feed where she happily announced she was expecting her first child, much to the surprise of her fans.
Taylor Townsend, an American professional tennis player, gave a surprising announcement in a recent post on her Instagram feed. In the video, the 24-year-old revealed that she was expecting her first child.
Not only did the touching video reveal the beginning of the star's pregnancy journey, but it also gave the viewers a detailed insight into her setbacks, motivations, and achievements as a tennis player.
The video began with Townsend speaking about the start of her tennis career. She revealed that at four years old, she was told she would never make it as a tennis player and was advised to quit.
The athlete then divulged that at 12-years-old, she became the youngest player to win Georgia State's qualifier. At 15, she won the Singles tournament at the Junior Australian Open even though she did not think she was good enough.
In 2012, at 16 years old, Townsend was the number one junior in the world, and instead of heading to the US Open, she was benched because she was not in good shape.
However, she did not stop fighting as she made it to the quarters and singles and won the title in doubles. As the video progressed, the athlete spoke about her 2015 success at the French Open and then her 2019 win against the third-best player in the world.
She revealed that she struggled with systemic racism and stereotype.
Townsend also opened up about how she was looking forward to being a mother. She revealed that all through her life and career, all the pessimistic remarks she heard gave her reasons to fight hard and served as motivation to keep playing.
The video showed the athlete flaunting her baby bump on the court. She added that the pregnancy was not any different as she would keep fighting and prove the world wrong once again.
The athlete revealed that her due date is in March and updated her Instagram bio to "mom to be." The identity of the child's father is unknown as Townsend has successfully kept her relationship under wraps.
While pregnant, she took part in the 2020 US Open and competed in both the singles and doubles tournaments. She played alongside Asia Muhammad but did not make it past the first round after they advanced to the semi-final in doubles.
In an interview, Townsend revealed that her idol was the renowned tennis player Martina Navratilova while growing up. She explained that Navratilova was a fellow left-hander and also wore glasses while she played just like she did.
The pro tennis player also lent her voice to the "Black Lives Matter" movement in a recent interview. She revealed that she struggled with systemic racism and stereotype and was often mistaken for the Williams sisters because they were all "built alike."
