Suri Cruise Turned 14 This Year — Facts about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' Teenage Daughter

Believe it or not, Suri Cruise is already 14 years old. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ only daughter is looking more like her famous mother with each passing day.

Tom and Katie’s highly-publicized relationship started in 2005. One of the aspects that attracted more attention to their romance was the “Mission: Impossible” star popping the question about seven weeks after meeting the “First Daughter” actress.

It is important to mention that the actress converted to Tom’s religion, Scientology, before tying the knot in a Scientologist ceremony held at Odescalchi Castle in Italy.

Their wedding had its fair share of drama, as well. Since Katie Holmes’ parents were practicing Catholics and didn’t like Tom because he was a “control-freak,” they refused to attend the nuptials.

Apart from that, it was reported that some guests were not sure if Katie would actually join Tom at the altar as she kept him and everybody waiting for about 20 minutes.

Unfortunately, Katie and Tom parted ways only six years after walking down the aisle. Shortly after that, the actress left the Church of Scientology and returned to being a Catholic.

In their failed relationship, the silver lining is, without a doubt, their daughter Suri Cruise, born in April 2006. As Tom’s spokesman Arnold Robinson revealed at the time, Suri’s name means “princess” in Hebrew and “red rose” in Persian.

Katie’s delivery was quite unusual, too. As requested by the Church of Scientology, she had a silent birth – a procedure that requires everyone attending the birth, including the mom-to-be, nurses, and doctors, to keep silent.

According to Scientologists, spoken words during periods of pain are recorded by the “reactive mind,” something that could result in problems for the mother and child, supposedly.

Just like her famous parents, Suri Cruise became a target of several rumors even at a young age. In 2012, shortly after her parents announced that they were parting ways, it was reported that she would attend an all-girls Catholic school in New York City.

Reports later stated that she would actually attend Avenues, an exclusive private school located in Chelsea, New York City.

As Business Insider reported in 2020, the school is $56,000 a year, and tech millionaires, Wall Street execs, and celebrities supposedly send their children there to study.

One of Avenues' most extravagant aspects is that each student receives a MacBook Air or an iPad Air. Starting in sixth grade, they can take the devices home.

Tom Cruise and Suri have not been seen together in public since 2013.

At the moment, it is unclear which school Suri Cruise is attending. One thing is clear, though: the 14-year-old teen is Katie Holmes’ twin.

In March 2020, the proud mother-of-one shared some details on her and her daughter’s relationship, admitting that her biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality.

According to Katie, she wants her daughter to be “100 percent herself,” strong, confident, and capable. The “Touched with Fire” actress added:

“[Suri] came out very strong — she's always been a strong personality. She'll pick an activity and work her butt off until she's really good at it.”

Apart from that, Katie said that she and her daughter were intensely followed when she was younger due to her celebrity status. Since she still wanted to take her daughter outside, they would go out early in the morning so that nobody could see them.

Nowadays, they live in New York City, where they are frequently photographed going for walks together. On the other hand, Tom Cruise and Suri have not been seen together in public since 2013.

Initially, it was believed that Scientology prevented Tom from seeing his daughter because anyone who leaves the faith is considered a Suppressive Person. Those claims were refuted by the Church, though.

The actor even sued a news outlet for alleging that he had “abandoned” Suri after divorcing Katie. Still, it was eventually revealed that the actress actually filed for divorce to protect her daughter from Scientology.
