Here's Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton's Epic Romance — Meeting on 'The Voice' to Getting Engaged
In 2020, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton celebrated five years together. In the same year, the pair finally got engaged when Shelton surprised her with a proposal.
Blake Shelton, 44 in 2020, and Gwen Stefani, 51, have been pushing their love and relationship for five whole years! The pair actually met when they were both judges on “The Voice” during season 9.
At the time, Stefani was working as a coach for the second season of the show. The pair hadn’t had a chance to get to know each other during the first season that they worked together, but things changed by the second one.

BONDING ON "THE VOICE" & DIVORCES
The duo got to bond in the second season because they had gone through a similar trial. Shelton had been married to Miranda Lambert in 2011, however, their union didn’t last and they went their separate ways in July 2015.
On the other hand, Stefani had been married to Gavin Rossdale in 2002, and they too, separated in the summer of 2015. The pop singer and Rossdale share three sons together, Kingston, 14 in 2020, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 6.
BECOMING CLOSE FRIENDS & DATING
Having something similar to bond over led the two to become close friends and eventually lovers. Rumors started coming in that the two singers were dating but the pair kept their relationship a secret.
Eventually, in mid-November 2015, Shelton and Stefani went public with their relationship. On November 4, 2020, the pop singer’s boyfriend performed at the CMA Awards in Nashville but she wasn’t seen with him.
GOING PUBLIC & FLIRTING
She was later spotted after the show at the after-party with him. The couple confirmed their relationship when they were seen holding hands at the event, which clearly meant they were together.
Soon enough, the pair felt more comfortable and started flirting during “The Voice” live shows that fall. In late December 2015, the two singers also attended an Arizona Cardinals game together.
OFFICIAL DATE & RED CARPET DEBUT
Their very first official date as a couple was on February 14, 2016. The duo was seen at a Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy Gala where they weren’t shy about showing some public displays of affection (PDAs).
Stefani was photographed while sitting on her new boyfriend’s lap inside the event. A few weeks later, they made their official red carpet debut walking together at the “Vanity Fair” Oscars Party.
RELEASING NEW MUSIC
The following year, they started releasing new music about finding each other and their divorces. Stefani confessed that “Make Me Like You” was a love song about her new boyfriend.
The same year, Shelton also released “Came Here To Forget,” which was about a couple coming together in an effort to forget their past. The first award show they attended was the Radio Disney Music Awards in April 2016.
KISSING AT THE AWARDS & DUETS
The couple didn’t walk down the red carpet together; however, when Stefani was given the Hero Award Shelton gave her a kiss. Their first duet occurred the following month when they performed “Go Ahead and Break My Heart.”
The couple sang the song together at the Billboard Music Awards. It was quite obvious that they were in love as they serenaded each other on stage to the track that featured on Shelton’s album, “If I’m Honest.”
BLAKE MEETS THE KIDS
Seeing that they had been together for almost a year, Shelton started getting to know his girlfriend’s children. The pop singer also started sharing social media images and videos of her man bonding with her children.
She also began spending time with her boyfriend at his Oklahoma ranch with her children included. Stefani took a few seasons off but returned to “The Voice” for season 12, in the spring of 2017.
FLIRTING OPENLY
The country singer, for his part, had remained on the panel throughout. This time around, the couple didn’t try to keep their relationship a secret and openly flirted with each other on the set of the singing competition.
In the fall of 2017, Stefani released a Christmas album that featured her boyfriend on the title track, “You Make It Feel Like Christmas.” The pair actually wrote the song together at his ranch.
1ST COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS TOGETHER
The first country music awards they attended together was in 2019. The couple attended the ACM Awards that April but they didn’t walk the red carpet together; however, she was right at the front when her man performed on the stage.
The pop singer ended up taking four more seasons off the singing competition but returned again for season 17, in the fall of 2019. She also took off for season 18, but returned for season 19, during the fall of 2020.
MORE DUETS
In December 2019, they once again released another duet called “Nobody But You.” Stefani and Shelton performed the track together publically at the Grammy Awards in January 2020.
In the summer of 2020, they released another duet titled “Happy Anywhere.” Both country music songs pretty much spoke about love and finding happiness with the right person in a relationship.
GETTING ENGAGED
Shelton and Stefani finally got engaged on October 27, 2020. The country star took to social media with a tweet where he was seen kissing his girlfriend as she showed off her engagement ring, and titled the post writing:
“Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020... And the rest of my life."
