"The Real" co-host and "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Jeannie Mai had her journey on the ABC dance show cut short after being diagnosed with epiglottitis, a potentially life-threatening condition.

She underwent emergency surgery four days ago to deal with the condition and has given her fans an update post-surgery in a post she made on her Instagram Story.

The 41-year-old shared a picture of herself clad in a white sports t-shirt. She posed in front of a mirror and snapped herself with her phone. She also wore glasses and black pants.

The photo background showed Mai was in the bathroom of the hospital, and she shared details of the aftermath of her surgery, writing in her caption, "4 DAYS POST SURGERY" and:

The update Mai provided her fans with will go a long way to calm their nerves after many of them expressed worry over her wellbeing following the announcement that she would no longer compete in DWTS. Mai underwent the emergency operation on Sunday, and she opened up about the procedure via a video recorded in her hospital room.

Her throat would have closed up if she had waited one more day.

In the footage, she expressed devastation that her DWTS journey had ended abruptly and in such a manner. Mai revealed she found out she had a throat abscess.

It caused her throat and tonsils to become so infected that it began to spread to other areas behind her neck and ears, meaning she had to undergo emergency surgery.

The procedure went well, but Mai was given incredibly alarming news when a medical professional told her that her throat would have closed up if she had waited one more day.

On Monday night's episode of DWTS, host Tyra Banks announced that Mai had emergency surgery, which forced her to withdraw, adding that the former contestant is doing well in hospital.

Mai's abrupt departure also meant that only one dance couple was eliminated on the night's show instead of double elimination. DWTS also aired a lovely video package in Mai's honor.

Despite not being able to say goodbye on the show, the television presenter is thankful for her experience, describing it as one of the best journeys of her life. Hopefully, her fans will see her again soon.
