Fashion expert and author Elizabeth Holmes said in a recent interview with PEOPLE that Meghan Markle is likewise devoted to style just like Diana, Princess of Wales.

According to Elizabeth Holmes, who recently published her book called "HRH So Many Thoughts on Royal Style," Meghan Markle and Princess Diana both used fashion to show their "individuality."

The pair's "individuality," Holmes explained, was particularly apparent as they were leaving royal life when they had a portion of their most notable style moments.

"Diana was facing critics from inside the family and certainly from the public," she said, "And Meghan, her time was obviously much briefer as a female, working royal, but the amount of criticism and the racist coverage she received [was intense]."

In her book, Holmes, who worked as a business and fashion journalist for The Wall Street Journal for longer than 10 years, investigates how the late princess gladly embraced trends and showed her sentiments through her style choices.

During public outings, the former "Suits" actress usually wears pants and menswear, which apparently, is a nod to her mother-in-law. Diana loved the two styles and even donned pants and menswear frequently.

In 2018, Meghan wore a black suit rather than a gown during her first evening engagement at the Endeavour Awards, which sent a "strong message" to the public.

The fact that Meghan was different was a benefit and hope.

As reported by Vogue, Meghan has revisited numerous outfits worn by Diana. When she exchanged her wedding vows with Harry in May 2018, Meghan's wedding gown has striking similarities to Diana's when the latter married Prince Charles in July 1981.

Meghan likewise seems to have followed Diana's strides when she and Harry made impressive redesigns to Frogmore Cottage. A royal expert said that Diana brought the Kensington Palace to "a more modern style," Express reported.

The Duchess of Sussex would help modernize the centuries-old institution by joining the royal family, as reported by Town and Country. The fact that Meghan was different was a benefit and hope.

In any case, anybody who has followed Meghan and Harry's love story knows her time in the royal family has hardly been a fairytale, much the same as Diana.

On January 8, Meghan and Harry made headlines when they announced they would be stepping back as senior members of the royal family. Meghan's mother, Doria, has been a significant source of support ever since.

The couple, who welcomed their first child together, Archie, on May 6, 2019, has clarified that they would prefer not to be dependent on public funds in their new lives.
