Gwen Stefani’s look at the recent Rockefeller Center event has been criticized by some of her fans. People thought her red-and-white dress looked exactly like a picnic blanket.
Pop singer Gwen Stefani took part in the “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” event this week. The star took to her Instagram account to show off the festive outfit she’d chosen to wear for the occasion.
The star matched with the red Christmas trees that featured in the background of the image. Stefani posed in her red-and-white floor-length gown that featured a line design.
She also included a large-brimmed hat and matching bra to complete her look. Most of her fans thought she looked quite stunning and matched the theme for the night however, a few others didn’t like her outfit with one person writing:
“After tonight's performance, you can purchase Gwen Stefani's dress for your next picnic blanket at Bed, Bath and Beyond.”
A second person also reiterated the first fan’s comment by asking why the singer looked like she was going to a summer picnic. The follower thought Stefani’s look was cute but just not for Christmas.
Someone else jokingly wanted to know if anyone was keen on a winter picnic. The fan hilariously mentioned how those interested could have the picnic on the musician’s dress.
“Gwen Stefani had on basically a picnic blanket.”
The Rockefeller was hosting its 88th annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Wednesday. However, this year there was no audience in the effort to follow the safety guidelines put in to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Gwen Stefani’s look has evolved over the years.
The event was held in midtown Manhattan with some of NBC’s stars on hand. Stefani, who recently released her holiday song "Here This Christmas," was joined at the event by fellow “The Voice” judge Kelly Clarkson and television show host Jimmy Fallon.
Legendary musicians like Dolly Parton and Earth, Wind & Fire also performed at the show. The event was co-hosted by "Today" show anchors Craig Melvin, Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, and Al Roker.
Stefani’s look has evolved over the years. Some die-hard fans will recall how she used to rock the surfer chic look when she performed with No Doubt at the Clean & Sober Beach Party on July 27, 1989.
