Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe delighted their fans when they tied the knot in 1999. Their marriage did not last, however. They broke up in 2006, shocking Hollywood fans.

The former couple shares two children - Deacon and Ava. Ava was born in 1999, while Witherspoon and Phillippe welcomed Deacon in 2003. The former couple has been co-parenting their kids since the split.

A WHIRLWIND ROMANCE

Witherspoon and Phillippe first met in 1997 at her 21st birthday party. A year later, they became engaged. They married in 1999 in Charleston, South Carolina.

Their wedding came just three months after the release of their film "Cruel Intentions," which would later become a cult classic. They welcomed Ava three months after their wedding.

Deacon came into their lives four years later. But having two beautiful children did not keep the equally good-looking former couple to remain married.

TOO YOUNG FOR MARRIAGE

In separate interviews, Witherspoon and Phillippe said their marriage was bound for failure because of how early they got married. They admitted they were too young when they tied the knot.

Witherspoon was 23 years old, while Phillippe was 24 when they married. During their marriage, rumors of Phillippe having an affair with another actress also swirled.

They reunited durig their son Deacon's 17th birthday In October 2020, where they had an intimate family dinner.

DIVORCE AFTERMATH

Phillippe later defended Abbie Cornish against people who blamed her for his breakup with Witherspoon. He said that his marriage was already crumbling before he met Cornish.

Recalling their divorce, which became official on October 5, 2007, Witherspoon revealed that she suffered anxiety attacks in the months that followed.

But all seems well between the two talented actors. They reunited during their son Deacon's 17th birthday in October 2020, where they had an intimate family dinner.

Witherspoon and Phillippe also showed their love and affection for Deacon on their respective Instagram pages. The former couple appears to be nailing co-parenting.

They also have moved on after their failed marriage. Witherspoon tied the knot with Jim Toth in 2011. They share a son, Tennessee, who was born in 2012.

For his part, Phillippe also went on to become a father for the third time. He shares a daughter, Kai, with his ex-partner, actress Alexis Knapp, the woman he dated after Cornish.
