Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion & More Stars Nailed the 'Elf on the Shelf' Meme — Check Them Out
An array of celebrities have hilariously joined the ongoing “Elf on the Shel” meme challenge and Carrie Underwood and Celine Dion are among those that have nailed it.
The holiday season brought along an interesting meme challenge that has taken the internet by storm, and several celebrities have joined the wagon, showing off their playful and creative smile.
After actress Elizabeth Banks shared a hilarious photo of herself with a small cut-out of Tom Hanks sitting on her shoulder, she launched the hilarious “Elf on the Shelf” meme for her colleagues.
Yesterday, country singer Carrie Underwood gave the meme challenge a shot and shared an image of her with a cutout of iconic vocalist Mariah Carey standing on her right shoulder.
The true origin of the craze stems from a 2005 book written by author Carol Aebersold.
The "Jesus Take the Wheel" crooner looked super gorgeous in an orange hoodie and playfully rang her fingers through her hair while Carey’s cutout saw her in a short strapless dress.
Celine Dion joined the challenge and shared hers hours later with a dramatic photo of her performing onstage. The five-time Grammy Award winner looked ravishing in a daring black dress with silver embellishments.
The outfit also featured an extravagant cape which she spread to reveal the glorious length. On her right arm was singer Adam Levine holding a guitar in one arm and stretching the other.
“The Power of Love” singer hilariously captioned the image, “Levine-on-Celine #myelf #elfontheshelf” tagging the Maroon 5 vocalist. Other stars that have nailed the hilarious meme include Kerry Washington.
The “Scandal” star took her challenge to the next level and shared a cutout image of her character on the political series seated on the shoulder of Amy Poehler’s character in “Parks and Recreation.”
“Empire” actress Taraji P. Henson decided to use singer Cardi B as her elf while Tracee Ellis Ross opted for none other than her iconic mother, Diana Ross. Priyanka Chopra chose Oprah Winfrey to be her cutout.
Reese Witherspoon put her spin on the challenge and rather than go for a celebrity with a rhyming name went for the legendary musical, “Grease” putting a cutout of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John’s characters.
According to reports, the viral meme began with "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Garcelle Beauvais who put an image of producer and singer Pharell Williams on her shoulder.
The idea behind the challenge is for the celebrity to superimpose images of things or people that rhyme with their names. However, the true origin of the craze stems from a 2005 book written by author Carol Aebersold.
The children’s book, titled, “Elf on the Shelf" tells the story of elf toys sent by Santa Claus to houses to watch children and make sure they aren’t on the naughty list for Christmas.

Parents are supposed to secretly move the toy elf around the home, placing them on shelves to give the kids an illusion that it watches their every move and observe their hilarious reactions to it.
Some celebrities including Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian-West, Mellisa Joan Hart, and Busy Philips have practiced the tradition on their kids and shared how it went on social media.
