Yesterday was undoubtedly a historical moment for the United States of America as they officially Inaugurated the 46th president, Joe Biden. The ceremony was filled with many highlights, but Michelle Obama’s outfit topped the list.

The former first lady brought her A-game, and more in a breathtaking burgundy ensemble crowned her as the best-dressed. As expected, internet users couldn’t help but compare the glamorous look to what she wore at the 2017 inauguration.

Many posted side-by-side photos of the inaugurations — where Obama donned similar burgundy colors — noting the difference in her looks. One user praised the mother-of-two for rocking the same shade at both ceremonies. Another wrote:

“One of the reasons that Michelle Obama is my forever FLOTUS is the difference between her look on this day in 2017 and her look on this day in 2021.”

Others made subtle jokes about how the former first lady settled for a modest ponytail bun in 2017 and went all out with a glamorous well-laid curly weave this year. One fan made a “how it started vs. how it’s going” post, a reference to both photos.

Obama showcased her impressive fashion prowess in the spectacular piece, which consisted of a wool turtle neck underneath a chic overcoat paired with her trademark wide-legged pants. She finished off the look with an oversized belt with a gold rim.

According to reports, the stunning look was curated by one of Obama’s favorite young designer, Sergio Hudson. Hudson has been responsible for many of the former first lady’s look both in the White House and after.

For her 2019 Becoming Tour, where the 57-year-old served looks upon looks, Hudson was the brain behind many of her outfits. He designed the blue sequined jumpsuit she wore to the Essence Festival, which made headlines.

Obama is no stranger to using her fashion to support young African-American fashion brands, helping showcase their talent to the world at large. For the 2017 inauguration, the best-selling author wore a Jason Wu dress.
