'The View' Co-host Joy Behar's Adorable Dog Bernie Steals the Show during a Recent Episode
Just like any other live show, “The View” had to adapt to stay on the air during the pandemic. For this reason, a very special guest appeared on camera: Bernie, Joy Behar’s dog.
On Tuesday’s episode, “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg seemed a little confused about the thing that was on the lap of her fellow host Joy Behar. It turns out it was not a thing; it was Bernie.
“I know. It looks like a muff,” Behar said as she was holding Bernie, her dog and “baby boy,” in front of the camera. The cute animal definitely stole the show from that point on.

Behar then explained that Bernie didn’t usually sit on her lap while shooting “The View.” However, her husband, Steve Janowitz, was not home, and when that happens, Bernie barks a lot.
Since having a dog barking in the middle of the show is clearly annoying, Behar decided to let him rest on her lap and pet him as much as needed to avoid interruptions.
Goldberg couldn’t help but joke about it. “I hope [Behar]’s wearing some kind of skirt,” she said. The “Color Purple” actress admitted that these things happen on Zoom calls, especially because it’s been a year since the pandemic.
The ladies of “The View” then talked about how Zoom etiquette's rules were evolving and mentioned that a Reddit user complained about a co-worker who attended Zoom meetings holding their baby.
[Behar] pointed out she wasn’t leaving anywhere.
While Bernie attracted a lot of attention for his guest-hosting gig on “The View,” it was not the first time that he appeared on camera. Back in July 2017, Bernie met Senator Bernie Sanders. Behar said:
“Let’s get to the real reason we’re here today, Bernie. I want you to meet my new dog, Bernie, and I named him after you.”
Behar, who kept joking about how her dog was similar to Sanders, asked the Senator if he was happy with his namesake. The 79-year-old politician said, “absolutely,” adding that Bernie looked like a very smart dog.
It is important to point out that Behar has complimented Sanders in the past. During the 2016 Democratic presidential primary, she said that while she wanted Sanders to drop out of the race, she was “sexually attracted” to him.
This past year, Behar made some headlines after it was reported that she would leave “The View” when her contract expired in the summer of 2022. In April 2020, she pointed out she wasn’t going anywhere.
Behar, the longest-running co-host in the show’s history, said that rumors about her retirement were exaggerated and that she needed to be on TV. What a relief!
