Amanda Gorman’s Inauguration Day performance seems to have opened up many doors for the young poet. She’s set to recite one of her original poems this year before the Super Bowl LV.
Amanda Gorman, 22, made headlines when she appeared at Joe Biden’s Presidential Inauguration on January 20, 2021. At the event, she had the pleasure of reciting the poem "The Hill We Climb."
This week, the National Football League (NFL) announced that the young poet had another big gig! The NFL has signed Gorman on to recite another original piece before the 2021 Super Bowl LV.
The recital will be part of both the television broadcast and the in-stadium pregame ceremony. In her recital, Gorman will recognize three honorary game captains that were chosen by the NFL.
The people are nurse Suzie Dorner, who manages the COVID ICU at Tampa General Hospital, and teacher Trimaine Davis from Los Angeles, who secured Internet access and laptops for his students.
Having access to laptops allows the students to access remote learning during the novel coronavirus pandemic. The last and third honorary is Marine veteran James Martin.
The former military man has assisted other veterans and their families to connect virtually amid the pandemic. Martin has managed to pull this off through his work with the Wounded Warrior Project.
During the Super Bowl LV, Gorman will appear before the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, the title of the poem she’ll recite hasn’t been given yet.
Besides her upcoming recital, the Los Angeles native has signed on with a modeling agency! The poet and author signed up with leading modeling agency IMG Models, according to “Entertainment Tonight.”
IMG Models will help Gorman build up her beauty and fashion profile by getting editorial features and brand endorsements. The agency represents stars like Naomi Osaka, Chrissy Teigen, plus Gigi and Bella Hadid.
During Biden’s inauguration, Gorman became the youngest poet to speak at a presidential inauguration. She had the honor of mingling with celebrities like singer Lady Gaga and former NFL player Alex Rodriguez.
During the inauguration program, the young poet was seated next to Rodriguez’s fiancée and musician Jennifer Lopez. She was so close to the big stars that she even overheard a private conversation.
Gorman heard a conversation between former First Lady Michelle and former President Barack Obama. The young woman was the first person to be named National Youth Poet Laureate.
